Armies that compliment each other in doubles lists?

In 2000point lists, 1000 each, which army books work realy well together and what tricks do they have?

I was thinking Ogres and Dwaves, 90% scout list, Big unit of scout maneaters, big unit of rangers with scout runesmith.

Warriors of Chaos and Beastmen work pretty well.

Warriors bring the heavy hitters and artillery, Beastmen bring bulk troops and magic.

From experiance ive found dwarfs and Brets to work pretty well together, Though in larger games. The Dwarfs tough slow infantry with The brets Mobility and good saves have annoyed the hell out of a friends Demons and WoC armies a couple of times.

I've played Ogres/Dwarves to good effect, but they were defensive lists. Scouting sounds fun - are you allowed to take Bugman?

We came 2nd in a doubles tourny recently with Ogres/Orcs as well. Lots of Mournfang, big'uns with speedy banner, and lots and lots of chariots.

I found Chaos Warriors to work well with the Red Guards in watchtower scenario when we didn't use the leadership rules. The Warriors held the watchtower, the Red Guards did everything else.

I played against an allied Empire and High Elf army at the weekend, and they complemented each other very well - the Empire's gunpowder, big blocks and unit buffs tied to the HE elite infantry and magic hitting power is a pretty tidy combo.

I think basically any armies which can use the trusted allies rules and have opposite play styles (to offset weaknesses) will do well together, though I've never been to a doubles tourney.

I'd like to go to one though - I've often thought Lizardmen and Empire would make a good team. Any army which can combine strong magic, gunpowder and solid infantry will be tough.

Has anyone played as Bretonnians and Wood Elves? I know they are supposed to be two of the weakest armies out there (according to the majority of the internet) but they are some of the most historically accurate allies in the history of Warhammer. Plus they wood seem to offer each other some great advantages - shooting and monsters from the Wood Elves / heavy and flying cavalry from the Bretonnians.

I'd say Skaven teamed with Skaven. Sounds brutal Why double the enemies numbers when you can quadruple them....

WoC and Tomb Kings works surprisingly well.

    Tomb Kings and Vampire Counts.

Vampire Counts spells affect "friendly undead". So now you have the incredible raising ability from the vamps affecting Tomb Kings as well. IN addition to Van Hels which helps the fact that the Tomb Kings can't march.

i might be mistaken but i believe all the tomb king undead is reffered to an nekharean undead so not sure the vamps spells would work on them.

Re: Armies that compliment each other in doubles lists?

Surprisingly I've found Dwarfs and Wood Elves to be a good line-up, as Dwarfs really benefit from the fast moving Dryads which can easily get flank charges. Plus, a fun tactic is to place Glade Guard in front of a unit of Dwarf infantry, since they can move forward nearly as fast as Dwarfs can march, the Glade Guard can shoot the whole way without penalty, and if charged they can simply flee through the Dwarfs with no real risk.

I mean, as a role for the Wood Elves it's a bit boring, as they can't take a wizard if you want to keep the Dwarf Dispel bonus, but Wood Elf wizards are pretty rubbish at the moment anyway. Treemen and Treekin are also great supporting units for Dwarf infantry, particularly if you use hand weapon & shield units like I do.

Empire with any good guy or neutral armies I'd say is a good match. Especially given the War Alter and Hurricanum provide their bonus for friendly units, not specifically empire ones. Throw in the cannons and you have a clear benefit for all the allies.

That's an excellent point. Ogres with +1 to hit and hatred would be pretty brutal in combat.

    Beastmen and Orcs.

A blackened plate doombull in a unit of trolls is a fearsome combo. Beastment provide ambushers and access to regular lore of magic and orcs provide cheap (if hit-and-miss) artillery.

Both armies have heavy hitting infantry and cheap chariots.

They are still úndead' for all intents and purposes though.

Key point is that the Nehekaran lore has excellent spells: +1A, KB, a great debuff... And the buffs only start working on Nehekaran undead when you want to power them up.
