    Searching for 6mm ww1 tanks/artillery/infantry

Can anyone recommend any where that has a decent range of tanks and artillery & infantry in the 6mm scale. I think 6mm is about 1/285-1/300 but correct me if I'm wrong!

I would preferable like plastic multi part kits, but a decent and wide range of affordable metal minis would be just fine.

I have done the google search but I dont really have any idea where to start with this era, ww2 seems much more popular. I have had a look through several companies (scotia, irregular) but many of these companies don't have the minis on show on there web stores or (in the case of irregular!) its hard to tell the quality from the paint jobs.

I've been used to having GW spoon feed me my miniatures all in one handy online store ever since I returned to gaming but I'm looking to move away from them but I'm a bit lost with all the many indy stores that have appeared!

Plastic, miltpart 6mm kits for WW1 - Bloody hell you aren't asking for much are you?

Right, Irregular Miniatures do a metal range of WW1 soliders at about ten pence each and they do a battle back which has a saving... although I have no idea of whats actually in the battle pack so it might be great and it might not be.

You can get this Airfix kit from model zone for £6 which isn't too bad, but its larger and comes with 48 figures.

Theres also the the plastic solider company and wargames factory, who seem to have more variety and are plastic, but there 15mm scale. Little pricer then the airfix but seem better quality in terms of pose and wargaming in general.

And thats all I can think of to be honest - what do you need them for out of curiosity? In all honesty at 6mm I think you can get away with most of the infantry. Planes and naval vessels seem to be in abundance in my short google search (6mm world war one), tanks might be trickier though.

as mentioned previously irregular & scotia do 6mm, but personnaly i would check out Pendraken (http://www.pendraken.co.uk/) who do 10mm . these are very very nice quality figures with a lot of detail & quite cheap for an army. pics can be found on the links on top of webby for forum & fb. i love their ranges especially the Dungeon pack game. But they do lots of ww2 army packs (start from £22ish iirc)
I just got a load of german paras & brits for little skirmish game im working on

i dont think its possible to make plastic multi part kits at 6mm/10mm size. just too fiddly

as for telling quality of models from paintjobs,i guess that depends on the quality of the paintjobs more often. i've seen FW stuff ruined becuase of naff painting.

If you are after 6mm WW1 then try Navwar/Heroics and Ros. They are very cheap and do the job, I assume you are looking at 6mm as you want to put a lot on the table. They do the whole range as far as I am aware.
I use them for my 6mm tanks and they look just fine with a nice paint job.

What ruleset are you thinking of using? Greatwar Spearhead is getting an update shortly from what I hear and Spearhead is easy to play and quite fun.

To echo the other posters, for 6mm Heroics and Ros range is very good and you can pay with paypal which is a major plus for me. 6mm is epic scale - fine for tanks but don't expect much differentiation or detail in the infantry.

Irregular are cheap and cheerful but also a bit lumpy and indistinct. GHQ are the premier in detail and price for 6mm - unsure if they do WW1 but they have extensive WW2 range.

Pendraken 10mm are very nice and still extremely cheap with a lot more detail especially on the infantry - if you have seen N guage model trains it's almost exactly the same scale (which helps with scenery / accessories)

If you move up to 15mm peter pig do a big range of ww1 - same scale as flames of war.

All depends on what you're intending to do really - you'll likely get some decent advice / suggestions on here - hope that's useful

    Thanks for all the replies.

My reasoning for 6mm is that I'd like to fit some of the tanks in with my ww1 inspired Epic40k orks! Its a scale I'm familiar with, with out staying on the WFB/28mm boat that I have been on for far too many years. I find 28mm is great for skirmish (mordhiem, necromunda etc...) and 6mm is the only other scale I have worked with.

I found some stunning minis on Magister Militum at 15mm (as well as dinosaur dice- amazing!) as well as some stunning fantasy 15mm I'd like to try out, but 15mm is unfamiliar, and there are large gaps in their range. I'd almost took the plunge and ordered an undead and goblin wolf rider collection, just to see if I could get the misses playing a mini version of warhammer with me! (she is not a gamer, but she likes undead models and could be easily duped into playing a small scale game or two!) but I bailed out, as that meant asking for extra extra hobby money from her!

As for which game system, I have no idea! But as people have mentioned spearhead I will look that up later and start from there! Rules is 2nd to the minis really. I have not found a club that I can get to easily near by, and there is only one other gamer that I know of at my work, and he is mostly about the big GW machine! So the miniatures are most important to me, as they will be the main (if not the only!) part of my hobby.

I'd like to have a huge shelf dedicated to the great war, and have a stunning looking, even if not gaming practical, small scale collection.

So, many thanks for your suggestions so far. I'll hit the research into the names you have all given me so far, and see if I can broaden my scope of this project! Many thanks!

I've used Irregular for Imp. Guard Epic infantry and tanks, that was ww2. Pretty poor casting (although I was getting it from Eureka miniatures, not sure if it's the same as from Irregular themselves) but very cheap. Looked awful out of the pack, but OK with a little love. The tanks were quite small against Epic tanks, so maybe even more so for Orks. A little extra armour and weapons made from plasticard would help.

    I trust you've been here:

There are some great 6mm models out there, but mostly sci-fi.

Gomez, 1/72nd is closer to 40k than 6mm!

One thing to be aware of is that even Epic is "Heroic" scaled.

    Look here:

    http://i977.photobucket.com/albums/a...Picture007.jpg

These are GHQ (true 1/285 scale) moderns next to Epic IG. I've seen good looking forces made from GHQ, but you can't mix and match them with Epic scaled stuff unless you're looking for very light vehicles. I've considered using a variety of Italian and Polish WWII GHQ armored cars for Kults of Speed, for instance.

WWI is hard to find in 6mm, probably because it is infantry-centric. There are so few vehicles the scale needs to be optimized for the infantry, which means 10mm. WWII and Moderns are better in 6mm because the scale is optimized for the vehicles.

To be honest Epic is closer to 10mm than 6mm. So for vehicles/tanks you are better off with 10mm stuff. Pendraken do a very good range of WW1 in 10mm that would work very well with Epic scale.
