new griffon model vs the previous model.

let me start by saying the models are nice, amazing actually, but they seem to beefy or stocky to me. i like the older one better and how the creature that looks sleeker.

the new ones look more like what i think a statue or some sort of decoration in terms of proportions.

does this mean i don't plan on getting one? no. i most certainly will. any way what are your guys' thoughts?

It's bigger than the old model, so is better.

This covers it all. The bigger something is the cooler it is and the more people will buy. GW had us pegged since Skaven.

I'll be getting the new one when I can and that will put be on 4 generations of Griffon in my army and each has its good and bad points.

Well, I prefer the new one to the previous one, but my favorite one remains the older Deathclaw.

I like it biggerer! Also, it's a much much nicer sculpt in my opinion. Looks seriously imposing!

Totally getting the new one in a few weeks. A huge improvement over all previous Griffons.

I like it. I still think the old metal one looked like it was always on the verge of falling over.

I like the new model, though I think it's head (without armour) looks very small compared to the rest, I'm not sure if it's the large claws that give that impression. I'm also not keen on the twin head, but then it's supposed to look odd

I think that this one looks great. But it is not a good model to carry around when you are going somewhere to play.
Myself would prefer a smaller one. I will not get a Griffon but it's not because of the size. I would not use a Griffon
    anyway.

I actually prefer the old one (although I'm not sure how the rider managed to not fall off...). The new one is a bit too oddly proportioned for my linking (and the two-headed version is just )

I'm an ardent fan of the new one to be honest, despite its faults (feathered 'flares' on the forelimbs, and perhaps the armour is riding a touch too high). I also like the size (in fact i think it could probably stand to be a touch bigger), a lot of the older monsters do look a bit .... bonsai to my view; these things are supposed to terrorise entire towns and be so rare and powerful that their riders/slayers are held as heroes for centuries to come. You can't really do that when you're about as big as a cow on its hind legs- the fact that you could fit a warhorse's barding on the old deathclaw shows just how tiny it was- it was like those small scale steam engines you get at certain tourist attractions, sure the technology's the same, but it just doesn't have the impact of the real hissing puffing monstrosity. By far the most important thing though is just the fact that it looks right, by which i mean it looks like an eagle- the old one with it's barely curved beak and row of molar teeth barely looked like a bird, let alone the king of them, this new one looks far more closely referenced- particularly the hook of the beak. The tiger element also looks that much more realistic, albeit slightly stylised to a very muscular, tight-skinned aesthetic. It's a terrific model and i fully intend on buying one (and possibly another for the griffon statue on a scratch-built war altar).

personally i don't think a creature has to be big to terrorize a town. without dedicated anti-air, any sort of flying beast with vicious claws, and teeth/beak/whatever could terrorize a town. you don't need to kill hundreds at a time to terrorize people in a medevil sort of setting. a griffon swooping down and carrying one or two townspeople a week or so would be pretty terrifying to people in that setting.

griffons are a cross between an eagle and a lion. while that cross in and of itself makes it beyond the realm of possibility, these new griffons are much bigger than any lion or eagle would ever be. even the eagle things the woodelves have aren't even close to the size of this thing. like i said in my first post the dimensions and proportions just don't seem to fit at all.

I hate the bicycle seat... Also, If the big bird were flying instead of rearing up, the rider would be mounted in "superman" flying forward position. However, the part I like the least is its overly huge size, I mean seriously, it dwarves the dragon, makes the hydra look tiny, probably makes bird droppings bigger than a Wyvern, and forced new fluff for its sheer size. In reality, a giant eagle/tiger the size of a horse would be terrifying, the size of Wyvern imposing and cool, the size of a war mammoth, stupid.

I'll be mounting my general on the back of a ridiculously top heavy buggy without a driver thank you very much

Was never a fan of the old one.
The new one is much better IMO though i do prefer the Island of Blood One. I have both though, the Island of Blood one will probably see more use however due to being easier to transport

The old Karl Franz model was far superior to the new one.

I have just finisheg assembling mine, and I can say that the I don't have anymre the impression that the head is too small that I got from the photos, probably the angle and/or paint job was giving a false impression as usual.
