    Empire as Bretonnia

    So I am looking at it like this.

    Grand Master= Bretonnian Lord
    Battle Wizard Lord= Prophetess
    Captain of the Empire= Paladin (Oh look I can buy mundane equipment!)
    Battle Wizard= Damsel of the Lady

    Knightly Orders = Errant Knights
    Inner Circle Knights = Knights of the Realm
    Reiksguard Knights= Questing Knights
    Demigrif Knights= Grail Knights
    Mortar= Trebuchet
    Halberds/spears= Men at Arms
    Flagellants=Grail Pilgrims
    Crossbowmen=Peasant bowmen (I always wanted them to be str 4)
    Pistoliers = Mounted yeoman

    No equivalent to Pegasus Knights and there you go.

    It misses the Blessing but gains +1 Armor save
    Loses the Magic Resistance but gains all the Lores of Magic
    Loses the Virtues but Gains Hold the Line.
    Loses the Lance (Except in the case of Demi-grifs which gains monstrous ranks) but gets I think better Knights for cheaper.
    You could even use Markus Wulfhart as Bertand and Wulfhart's Hunters as Bowmen of Bergerac.

    This is of course not even including all the TONS of other options the Empire now has. This is again why I think Bretonnia needs more then Dev Charge and small adjustments to Knights to keep up with the Army Book creep.

    I'm not sure all of those comparisons are in favor of the empire -- I think the BRB gives the sense of where they want to go with the Brets -- ethereal knights/archers, maybe even more stuff in that vein. As for the Empire/Bret comparison, what I'd like to see is more diversity in the fluff for the brets. The Empire book details all the provinces, and gives different looks/backgrounds for all of them. The Brets have 1 look/background. I think it would be cool if X province was "the one that produces the best wine", or "the one that has a beastmen problem and all their women are a bit hairy".

    Just my two cents.

    You could set them up as Border Princes, a whole mish mash of Empire and Bretonnian stock that follow different methods in each area, holding true to certain traditions of one and traditions of the other all at the same time.

    I think it boils down to needing patience. The Bretonnian army will be updated, but up until then it's still a decent army.

    They are solid, and benefitted from some of the changes 5th brought in. Plus, the Blessing is awesome! Makes me not take anything that increases the strength of my characters in my Empire army to above 4.

    Army Book Creep? You mean the creeping up in points? I'm not moaning about the Empire book, but when most of our units have gone up in points, it seems a bit odd to complain about army book creep!

    Still, if you really feel the need to use the Empire book for Bretonnia, surely Inner Circle Knights of the White Wolf are your questing knights?

    Yeah no army book creep in the new books. Infact empire may (I repeat may, lol) have taken a hit in power.

    This made me laugh. I mean they're archers dude, just no.

    I haven't read the empire book yet but I don't think the bret book is in dire enough straights to warrant a proxy. Seems like you'll be loosing all the flavour imo, no blessing, no lance, no hiding magic users in the back rank, no RAF (). Also the mortar - trebutchet seems a little crude to me, a solid chunk of stone going to a large template of s 2?

    I would have no problems with playing against it but I think you should just stick to the bret book. Start an empire army if they appeal to you.

    Yeah, and go up a point please. At the moment Bretonnian Longbowmen are far superior to my Glade Guard, point for point.
