Thread: Colossus Siege Mortar?

    Re: Colossus Siege Mortar?

I was thinking about getting a basilisk and finding a way to make the barrel interchangable with something else to represent the colossus.

I do have the barrel bits from the shadowsword kit lying around and I think one of those cannons might work (I made a storm lord so I've still got all the long barrels)

One of the smoke stacks from cities of death might work.

oh yeah I forgot that the colossus is on a chimera chassis in the IG 'dex. That was making me hope ages ago for an Self-Propelled Gun Boxed set of sorts!!!!

I'm going to go on an outer-body experience and go possess the CEO's of GW. Any requests while I'm manipulating their bodies? :P

    Re: Colossus Siege Mortar?

I have one (Chimera hull + super heavy mortar from 1:35 bits box...), and have found it underwhelming, simply due to the amount it misses.

I have to agree with Col Shaw. A pair of Griffons are far more versatile, and just as good against the Collussus's main target, 3+ saves in cover. Two blasts with re-rolls will provide about 3x as many hits as one without. They're also far more survivable.

As to range, I find the 12" minimum range means the enemy are in range, or in hull HF range. The amount of times I want a range over 48" on the griffons are far less common than the times I wanted a min range under 24" on the colussus
Occasionally accused of being helpful and constructive.
One ring Book to rule them all, one ring place to find them, One ring Codex to bring them all, and in the Darkness future bind them. Time for the unified Marine Codex.

A pivot to a focus on game-balance, starting with amendments to every codex.

Well it arrived in the mail and I'm building it. Might get a chance to try it out today. When I am using it in my Armoured company list I'm buying it "slick loader" for two shots a turn. Should help a bit with accuracy and wounds

    Re: Colossus Siege Mortar?

Ok so played 1750 game today vs Chaos today, and let me say I like the Colossus... ALOT. Very helpful to have something to root Marines out of the craters of their exploded Rhino's. First shot killed 10 marines in their crater, second missed 3rd took out another 8 in cover as they attempted to get close to my lines. turn 4 some terminators DS in an popped it. Over all very pleased because Marines in cover have been the only problem I encounter often.

Note I was using this in my 1750 IG list not in an Armoured Company so no double shots. Any specific questions I'd be more than happy to answer, perhaps army composition would help too.
