Thread: Tyranid Warriors and Tyranid Prime in a Mycetic Spore?

Tyranid Warriors and Tyranid Prime in a Mycetic Spore?

In codex Tyranids the warriors are classified as infantry, and a Spore can carry up to 20 infantry models.
In the warriors entry it says that they can take a Spore, and their unit size is 3-9.

Does this mean that I can Deep Strike a Mycetic Spore with 9 warriors and 2 Tyranid Primes?
Dropping a unit behind enemy lines with 33 wounds, WS6 and 35 Attacks base is just insane.
On top of that, with Deathspitters, they have 33 S5 shots at BS4.

Is there any FAQ or errata restricting the numbers of warriors in a pod?
(They are much larger beeings than for say termagants so I would understand if there were)
Or is this an legit option? Then I must try it!

I am not an expert on Tyranids but based on what you have described then I would have to say Yes, they can do that. It says it can hold up to 20 models and that's only 11.

Tragically you cannot put a Prime inside a Mycetic Spore. It is not a transport and works more as an upgrade to an infantry squad, one of the side effects being that Independant Characters cannot join him for a drop. One of the more offensive rulings of the Tyranid FAQ. I am afraid that Primes will always be walking around the board.

Note that there is otherwise no limit for the Warriors. You can quite happily Pod a full squad of 9.

Too bad, and that´s just stupid.. Like a space marine commander couldn't ride in the tactical squads rhino, because it was their rhino..
Dropping 9 warriors is still cool, but with the increased WS/BS the Prime would give them it would be so much more fun.

Sure he can, just not with a full squad. If it's a Combat Squad, they've taken a casualty, or the army commander stupidly fielded them as a squad of 9, then he can join them in the Rhino. Heck, he can even hop into the Rhino if it's empty!
Are you a Wolf, a Sheep, or a Hound?

I know that a space marine can do that.
That was my point, quite unfair that their IC's can join a squad and hop in their transport, but the Tyranids can't.
As stated above and now known to me, the pod transporting the Nids is not an transport, it's an unit upgrade, and the Nids IC sadly can't ride with them.

But it's still cool deep striking 9 warriors.

Unfortunatly there is indeed and faq, which states that Primes cannot ever ride in spores with other units. Because they're not Space Marines.

If you want an entertaining rant about the Tyranid faq, try this.

    'Nid FAQ
Q: If a Tyranid unit takes a Mycetic Spore, can it choose
to deploy normally whilst the empty Mycetic Spore
deep strikes on its own? (p54)
    A: No
and yes I think it is dumb, but it is the rules.
"Do you use the number on the bottom of the die to determine your rolls? Because the book doesn't discuss that the top is the correct side to read, either. Some things are just THAT obvious."

The 'fluff' behind the FAQs is that the unit is 'grown' inside the pod. But yeah, I agree it sucks. My frequent response to many questions about my armies is, "No, I can't do/don't have that. I'm not playing Marines.............."

So, Tyranids can grow 19 genestealers and a Broodlord in a pod, but they can't grow 8 warriors and an Alpha Warrior...?

It's certainly depressing when rulings are completely reversed for different armies.

Holy crap, I've only scrattched the surface of this. There's a lot of frustrated Nid players out there..
But I'm in love with my Nids and their fluff, I will hang in there untill the next codex and/or the 6th ed changes it all. Or the 7th. Or 8th.
