Cool To Kill a Giant...or Five

    Hey all,

A bit of fun for you (I hope); I was flicking through Tamurkhan and I noticed one of the campaign games involved a 1500 point game against 5 giants. It got me thinking about anti-giant lists so I thought I would ask for your input. Post whatever Hero/Unit set-up you would take against an all Giant army, or a full blown 1500 point list if you like, no matter what army you take. Usual army composition/magic item limits apply.

    Here is my take:

    Warriors of Chaos

Exalted Hero of Khorne, Juggernaught, Flail, Favour of the Gods (184points)

Exalted Hero of Slaanesh, Steed of Slaanesh, Shield, Glaive of Putrefication, Potion of Strength (190points)

12 Warriors of Khorne, Halberds, Full Command, Banner of Swiftness (267points)

12 warriors of Khorne, Halberds, Full Command (252points)

Chaos Chariot, Mark of Khorne (150points)

Chaos Chariot, Mark of Khorne (150points)

5 Chaos Knights, Lances, Full Command, Banner of Rage (305points)

The lack of artillery means I can make full use of my heroes without having to worry about keeping them in a unit for Look Out Sir Rolls, they should be able to take out a Giant each but I might team them up with other things anyway to make sure. The Chariots and Knights should be able to take a giant out each in the first round of comabt, which leaves the warriors for the last one, and/or to help someone out if there is a problem.

Let's see what you guys come up with

My goal for the year is to get another 100 models painted.
    So far I haven't touched a brush.

    Warlord, Shield
    Warlitter
    Fellblade

    Warlock Lev 2
    Condensor

    Chieftain, BSB, shield
    Weaping Blade, Potion of Strenght

    44 Slaves, Musician

    30 Clanrats, Shield, FC
    PWM

    44 Slaves, Musician

    5 Gutter Runner, Poison, Slings

    5 Gutter Runner, Poison, Slings

    5 Globadiers
    PWM

    Doomwheel

    WLC
    WLC

    1500 Points

    ---

The two WLC should have the potential to kill a giant ethery two turns. Together with the Doomwheel, the 20 poisened attacks with slings and two shoots from the PWM it should be enought for one or two dead giants a turn.

And if that is not enough the base spell from the lore of ruin doing d6+2 S5 damage should do some more damage.

If they reach close combat the warlord should handle one and with a little luck for one turn even the BSB with S7 and D3 wounds should have some success. A charge of the Doomwheel could a least hurt one giant, depending on the strenght of his soots in this turn.

And if I can hold one giant with a unit of slaves I can even try to get some poison hits from the gutter runners / WLC shoots of, maybe supportet with some hits from the globadiers and the PWM.

Few multiwound creature are no nightmare for Skavens ... ;-)

GodlessM is pretty much correct, most armies have things that can take them out with ease.

Lots of missile attacks, even better if you can poison them. Goblins with spider banner, skinks, etc.
Big units that can throw out a lot of attacks, I'd try to resist elite units, because if the giant can survive the first round some of its attacks can mince a small unit. Probably ghouls, marauders, savage orcs, night goblins with added fanatics, etc.
    War Machines
Special units, like Hexwraiths for VC, spawn for Chaos, things with Heroic Killing Blow.
    Lastly, magic.

    Empire

Level 4 Shadow Wizard with Power Stone
    Level 2 Shadow Wizard
Level 1 Shadow Wizard with Forbidden Rod

    35 Halberdiers with Full Command
    35 Halberdiers with Full Command

    Great Cannon
    Great Cannon
    Great Cannon

    Luminark of Hysh
    Luminark of Hysh

Enjoy, as the Giants have to run a gauntlet of 3 S10 D6 wounds shots, and 2 S8 D3 wounds shots a turn! If Winds of Magic are poor, the poor Level 1 blows himself up for some dice, and just slow the Giants down with Shadow magic, or debuff them, or whatever really.

I mean 5 giants isn't hard at all to deal with... now if you only had to take other monsters... that'd be tough.

Lizardmen could do this without breaking a sweat most likely. Mass skinks with blowpipes.

    Horde'o Ironguts!

Giants are bobbins against Monstrous Infantry! Seriously, they have to use the big stuff chart. They yell and bawl all they want, I'm still stubborn on LD9 thanks to the Tyrant. Giant doesn't tend to get back up after all those Great Weapons!

But it does sound like a seriously fun game!

This is something I also want to try out, a monster hunt style game with a games master taking 3000 points of monsters against three 1000 point armies commanded by a player each. Whoever kills the most monsters in 6 turns wins.

That would make an interesting game indeed... the tactical decision to target the monsters closest to the other players with my cannons to deny them the kills is just so very, me.

That was I thought once, before my general and BSB where put out of position byt a target too tempting to ignore (I killed the opponent BSB and general), leaving the bulls (8 + one firebelly) in cc with a giant that I expected to kill quickly.

A few turns later, the giant mage my unit (still undamaged) flee, overcharged on my slaughter master, and panicked my thundertusk, all of that because my general and BSB where not there anymore.
