creating a slimy look

I am trying to see if anyone has a good slime recipe. What I am looking for is slime between the fingers of my abomination....I am looking for the snotty clear look I have seen around. does anybody know how they are achieving the look?

Off the top of my head, I'd be thinking coloured pva or water effect. Colour it using paint or washes, apply very sparingly, building up in layers if required?

Never done it before myself, however.
