Question Glaives and other two hand type armaments

LotR or WotR army list: LotR
I'm wondering about the all around effectiveness of two handed weapons. Are they worth the extra points? Or are they just a waist of points? I dont use them much and only when I face def6 or up opponents. I find that the extra hitting power is nice but even with the high fight value of my elves I still lose my fights a lot when using them even when paired up 2on1. But the main thing I am concerned about is if elf cav can use glaives as two handed weapons while on horseback, the rules say that no model can use a two handed weapon while mounted but is a glaive a two handed weapon? It can be used as a two handed weapon but is not(as far as I know)classified as a two handed weapon. So can they use it as a two handed weapon on horseback? Or is it just a waist of points?

Elf glaives have their own rules which allows them to be used on horseback and as two handed weapons. On elves glaives should be used sparingly, not all them really need them, just enough to crack some of the d6 around. A lot of times spears are a better investment due to being able to support with them, therefore allowing you to win the fight and roll more dice to wound.

I don't often take very many for the reasons that you stated. But my main concern was with the elf cav as I had a dispute with a fellow gamer who has read the book many times who said they could not. Also can they take a shield and a glaive and benefit from both armaments? Being the def bonus and the two handed ability?

    Thanks.

It does say in the book i think that if they take a spear or shield they cannot also benefit from the glaives 2HW ability.

Well that is unfortunate, I guess I'll just use bow/glaive armed horsemen and leave the shield/glaive models out, or take them without glaives.
I would have thought that they could use the momentum of the horse to use the two handed weapon. Hmm?
Could you tell me where the rule concerning the glaives and cav is? Much thanks.
