Question My First (Fantasy) Minotaurs Army

    Fantasy Army: BoC
Hello all you wonderful people. So - I am a 40K player, and everyone keeps telling me I should play Fantasy.

Now, I paged (confusedly) through a bunch of Codex books (a friend of mine told me which ones were to avoid) - and I really like the look and feel of the Beastmen. Nice and... Savage.

Now, the idea here is 'low model count' - and this is what I came up with.

Here is my first stab at a 2500 point army

One tactic I've been suggested: When deploying I start w/ the Chariot's - near the center. By the time they are done deploying, most of my enemies forces are on the table, and then I can select which side to load up.

Run the bulls forward, and sweep from the flank.

    Lemmie know how it goes:

    Doombull (General)
    + Armor of Destiny
(I was told that the Doombull needs armor to make him very good)

    Great Bray-Shaman
    + lvl 4
    (more magic is better, yes?)

    x2 Gorebull (1 is BSB)
(I do not fully understand the BSB thing - but i'm told i need it)

    x8 Tuskgor Chariot
(Wanted to keep numbers low, and this one is also rather fast to help run things down, since the minotaurs cannot)

    x2 Minotaurs
    3x2 each
    + Musician +Standard Bearer
(Also, like the BSB not sure why I want a Musician or Standard Bearer, but I am told its what I wanna do)

    and 1 Ghorgon

    Cause, he big and scary!

Re: My First (Fantasy) Minotaurs Army

Having been given some advice and a gentle nudge to the correct parts of the books i have this Amended List:

    2497 / 2500 (+3)

    Doombull
General, Heavy Armour, Shield, Sword of Swift Slaying, Ramhorn Helm, The Other Tricksters shard, Gnarled Hide

    Gorebull (#1)
Extra Hand Weapon, Shield, BSB, Armor of Destiny

    Gorebull (#2)
Extra Hand Weapon, Armor of Silvered Steel, Ironcurse Icon

    x8 Tuskgor Chariot

    Minotaurs (#1)
6 w/ Standard Bearer, Musician, & Bloodkine (w/ Blackened Plate)

    Minotaurs (#2)
6 w/ Standard Bearer, Musician, & Bloodkine (w/ Blackened Plate)

And here is where I have a bit of a Quandary:

    Do I bring:

    A) 1 Ghorgon
    B) 1 Great Bray-Shaman & 1 Bray-Shaman

I'm kinda leaning towards the Ghorgon - but I understand that magic is a big part of the game, and rather needed.

However, the points are tight. Tough call -
Hope you all can give me some more advice. =D

    Thanks again!

    Hammerman.

Re: My First (Fantasy) Minotaurs Army

I understand the desire for a low model count army but I think having no core infantry unit at all may really hurt your chances, not to mention 8 chariots will set you back a fair bit and it's quite an old model without any options for customisation so depends what you think of the aesthetics and whether you want to convert them.

Character load out is a lot better in the second list, a little surprised you've not given the minotaur units any weapons options though, I'd be tempted to go for shields as I think they're plenty killy enough particularly with a character in but still quite squishy. May want to consider giving one great weapons for some added punch too for things like knights where S5 may not quite cut it.

I love the Ghorgon and really try to make him work and he can have some great results but he's far from reliable and if you come up against something like skinks with a lot of poison or dark elves with high volume shooting, skaven with slave pits he'll never see any action so I'd go with the shamans also lore of beasts will help mitigate both the squishiness and lack of high S attacks with just the signature spell and has some great buffs for your characters.
To paraphrase Harry: 8th edition and Storm of Magic - BRING IT ON!

Take the shaman, drop some minotaurs if you want a gorghon.

Well, I sat down and re-tweaked a few things here and there.
The highlighted portion is the area I have the most "is this a good idea" or not.

The main thought is that this sword would prevent him from loosing frenzy, ever...which means he never looses the extra attacks.

    Doombull
General, Heavy Armor, Shield, Berserker Sword, Ramhorn Helm, The Other Tricksters Shard, Gnarled Hide

    Gorebull (a)
Extra Hand Weapon, Shield, BSB, Armour of Destiny

    Gorebull (b)
Extra Hand Weapon, Armour of Silvered Steel, Ironcurse Icon

    x8 Tuskgor Chariots

    Minotaurs (a) x6 (3x2)
w/ Musician, Standard Bearer, Bloodkine w/ Blackened Plate

    Minotaurs (b) x6 (3x2)
    w/ Musician, Standard Bearer

    Great Bray-Shaman (lvl 3)
    Lore of Beasts

    Bray-Shaman (lvl 1)
    Lore of Shadow

Yeah, the berzerker trick has been pointed out. But... It's a doombull. What the hell are you losing combat against anyways? Especially if you take a sword that will make him do extra damage - swift slaying was fine, as its effectively reroll hits against anything that isn't a character / a very few super elites.

Give one of the shamans a scroll. Hell, personally I'd be tempted towards dropping the bray-shaman entirely, and just pimping out the great shaman, but miasma is nice... Also, where on earth are they going? They have nowhere to hide currently, which makes them easy warmachine hunter bait, for example. Or cannonball bait.

Okay, I'll switch it back to Swift Slaying, thank you. The sword was a thought experiment.
Would it be more useful elsewhere?

I had the thought of pimping that Great-Shaman too. There are a great number of useful magic items.
What would you suggest I do to "put" the Shaman somewhere?

or should i drop both and go w/ a Ghorgon instead (and have no magic).
