Tau Markerlights?

Hypothetical situation: 2 squads of 5 Pathfinders aim Markerlights at a squad of Long Fangs who are sitting in cover. One gets 3 hits, the other gets 2. Are the hits cumulative? Example would be to remove their cover save entirely which would use up 3 hits and then make a Broadside squad BS5 with the other 2 hits so that they can shoot at the Long Fangs.

yes, the squad using them simply removes the 5 counters and spends them how they want to ie just what you are saying.

Yup they certainly do as Lantzkev has already mentioned, i often markerlight tanks with my pathfinders who sometimes manage to fluff it so i will use my Tetra to mark up the same target so i can push a hammerhead up to BS5 and then remove the cover save that a vehicle might have for being hull down etc

Yes the hits are cumulative. It's been a while since I've looked at my Tau Codex, but this should be explained on the page with the Markerlight explanation.
