    The Angels! They've arrived!

    Storm Angels

    Origins

Established during the 23rd Founding, the Angels’ parent chapter was a long held myth. Despite the obvious naming convention and stylised water drop and wing motif of their chapter bearing similarities to the famed Blood Angels Legion there wasn’t any predilection of close combat or the rumoured ‘red thirst’.

If anything, the Storm Angels were more akin to Ultramarines, strictly adhering to the codex and its strictures.

It was the campaign of Krotan against the Orks in M41.549 that their true origin came to light. Fighting a protracted campaign along side Lord Inquisitor Nathaniel, during a particularly long engagement that stretched the limits of even the legendary Space Marines did some break.

Casting combat doctrine aside and eschewing tactical sensibilities, the first to break rank was Brother Artem. Ploughing head-long into the Orks lines, garrotting greenskin with hand and blade alike, the last to be heard from his lips were “deus sanguinius!”

Only through persistent requests and demands of Inquisitor Nathaniel to the High Lords of Terra for answers was there any light shed on the mystery.

++MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM TERRA. CODE 4567/732++
    ENCRYPTION LEVEL: ALPHA ALPHARION

    Chapter of Blood Angels descent.

Origin kept secret for **CLASSIFIED** see if rumoured flaw is **CLASSIFIED**.

    Study failure, Ordo Hereticus dispatched.

    ++MESSAGE ENDS++

Nathaniel made this aware to Chapter Master Orpheus, as he was aware of the noble stature of the Astartes. Orpheus immediately sent a missive to Commander Dante of the Blood Angels, explaining the situation and pleading for help and assistance.

High Chaplain Astorath arrived shortly, already in the nearby Cursis system over-seeing the Flesh Tearers. Here he held a commune with the Storm Angels’ command, explaining the flaw, the gene-curse and their new found legacy. The life and death of Sanguinius is a well known story of legend, so to be originating from such an esteemed blood-line was pleasing to the Astartes’ martial nature. But what of the curse? Will it affect them more? Is there a cure? Astorath had no answers, but only gave solace in the fact that they were not alone.

On return to their homeworld, the Storm Angels completely re-worked their battle doctrine. With new STC patterns arriving from Baal they implemented the new predator designs, created improved chainswords befitting their heritage and established a Sanguinary Priesthood and a modest Sanguinary Guard.

The Death Company remain a curse, like all of Sanguinius’ sons. But rather than resorting to see their brother descend into madness and visions, they are put out of their squalor with the blessing of the Chaplains. This is in part to keep the morale of the chapter up, but also to not lose face in front of allies and mortals alike.

    Home World

The Storm Angels home world is Vitreus, a planet based in the Duratus system. Their fortress monastery Stiria is hewn from the tallest mountain on the planet, Arogna.

Stiria is locked in a long seasonal orbit, which has scorching summers and deep winters. It is during the winter time do the Angels pick their recruits, the deep colds picking off the weaker mortals leaving a prim gene pool of toughened humans.

The Storm Angels holds a particularly close bond with their populous, acknowledging their divine right as the Emperors Sons and accepting all its trappings. They particularly allow the observance that they are Angels, the celestial beings of old, despite its natural lenience of the religious. They argue that as beacons of hope, they enable humanity to prevail in the testing times.

    Re: The Angels! They've arrived!

Hello all and welcome to my newest adventure of power armoured goodness. This chapter harks back to when I was a plucky 11 year old child coming to terms with the glorious universe of Warhammer 40,000. Back the marine du jour was the Blood Angels, and I was in love with their tragic story and heroic defiance against their curse. But as a child with a rampant imagination I couldnt just have any old bunch of blood angels - oh no! They had to be mine! So I slapped on some blue paint (ice blue if I recall) and named them Ice Angels (clever eh?) and called it a day.

Now that a decade has passed I have decided to revisit this original love again, hopefully my painting has improved! I am entering the Doubles Tournament in September so to begin with I will be painting towards that force, but I will eventually add more and more. Here we go!

    Librarian Ensis

Ensis has been dispached to fight alongside Veteran Sergeant Lucio, a pairing that has countless times before been successful against the Xenos menace. The golden knee is the indication that he has been seconded to the 2nd Company. The golden halo was awarded for his valour against the treachorous Word Bearer Apostle Korsis. The purity seal was awarded for proof that he was not tainted in the engagement, one he wears proudly.

    Veteran Sergeant Lucio

Lucio is the longest serving member of the 2nd company barring Captain Horatio. He was in active service for the 1st company beforehand, before suffering the traumatic amputation of his left arm. His golden laurel is in recognition of the fury he showed in destroying the Necron lord that removed his arm. The red helmet denotes his rank as sergeant, the white stripe and blood drop to both state his veterancy.

Compliments, criticism and help would be welcome and appreciative. I know they look rough up close, but thats the wonder of the macro shot!

The blue seems very... flat and the gold used needs more layers to achieve a covered effect, as it is you can see thought the gold slightly. I would clean up the joints in the armour with black or another colour to break up the blue.

    Like the background!

The blue needs some depth to it, try giving it a wash and tidy the armour joints.

Thanks guys, ill get on tidying the armour joints than, the problem with washing is that I don't want to lose the vibrancy of the blue! I have lined the armour with a darker blue but is that not obvious?

I get what you mean about the vibrant colour, try fixing the armour joints up and black line the red helmet (use really watered down black paint) also have a go at basing him. The only way to really get a good idea is to base him up and have a look at the finished mini. Also try green for the eyes

I have bases on delivery, I'm pretty certain they'll look better once based properly. The helmet is lined but perhaps could be done again. Green lenses on the sergeant or on both?

    Looking good!
I would only black line the red helmet, the blue ones have a good contrast with the shadow already.
Can't wait to see em based!

Jo-Jo:You do realise that that shoulder pad is completely smooth, there are no recesses for a wash?

ss_cherubael: I can't wait for the bases either, I got the email confirmation that they've been dispatched, just have to wait for airmail now! I finished another marine today so will update with another picture later!

Hurray for thunderstorms forcing me to stay in!
    Fabio:

Being theyoungster of Squad Lucio, Fabio is hot headed, arrogant and self righteous, fully embracing the notion that they are actually Angels. To this end, Lucio is forever berating, scolding and lecturing him as to the error of his ways. Fabio has only taken part in 6 engagements, but has collected an impressive kill ratio, much to Lucio's chagrin.

    Antonio:

Antonio is for all intents and purposes, the exact opposite to Fabio. Aged, resolute and pragmatic, Antonio was the living example of how a "codex astartes tactical marine" should conduct himself, and was one of the few that openly voiced his concerns regarding the chapters' choice of following the more close combat doctrine of the Blood Angels. Lucio has permanently assigned Antonio to Fabio, in hope that his personality rubs off on the irresponsible youth.

    One more to go!

    Tabio is now done!

Tabio is the crack shot of the squad, and regularly competes in the yearly chapter competitions, often finishing in the top ten percentile. He has been honoured with the meltagun because of his innate skill, a task he carries out with wanton abandon. Tabio lost his right arm whilst squaring up to an Ork Nob who had a power claw, despite losing his limb he still managed to microwave the greenskin at point blank range.

    Obligatory group shot:

Still waiting on the bases, but they should be here soon, I've also built 6/7 tanks, they're up next for the airbrush!

    And the motor pool:

Just the one more Baal predator to go then they're bought, just waiting on the airbrush now. Each tank is unique, which I felt was important given that I have 3 Baal predators with assault cannons and heavy bolters and 3 predators with autocannons. They're all individual now.

    Re: The Angels! They've arrived!

A really easy trick to clean up those shaded areas and make everything flow is to use washes. A nice coat of Badab black over everything will give shading and lining to make everything more distinct. Also a good idea would be to go back over everything and make sure the paint went where you wanted it to go.
Waiting for less nerd-rage directed towards Matt Ward since 5th Ed. happened.

Oh yeah I have to do shading still, I have a vallejo wash for that! This is still WIP, but I am concerned about the soot, it doesn't seem right to me :-\

Tank #6 almost done, all that's left is some detailing and lenses, in very pleased with the weathering and dirt along the bottom.

Further pics of the mud weathering and also that I've now taken to doing the soot by airbrush instead of stippling it on, and I think it's a much more pleasing effect.

C+C would be dearly appreciated, there are a lot of views but no comments :-(

    You're a chatty bunch obviously :-P

Too better differentiate the tanks, I've painted the extra armour in a lighter blue and another in dark blue:

    Bow for something completely different;

I have to create a portfolio for a college course, so I have to start from scratch!
