Ok...I think thunderwolf cavalry is not as good as people make them out to be. Now this is just the unit, not the HQ on thunderwolves battle leader or lords on wolves are with the right tools just nuts.

But the unit, leadership 8 is just meh, and not as resilient as people make them out to be (for point cost). My guess this is due to the large amount of high rate of fire, high strength weapons people are sporting this day. Also in 'competition match ups' I do not see them making a dent in a paladin squad, as a guard player I am not that impressed because of bubble wrapping my 'expensive' units.

ghost arcs, the internet says theiyrethe best but I find that ghost arcs are useless. theyre large targets that get killed on turn one if they carry royal courts and dont heal enough warriors to make a difference when theyre being pounded by artillery

They also have a strange ability to heal a warrior squad standing nearby. As opposed to, say, a warrior squad standing in the actual transport...

thats the poit, you've got a 10-20 man squad standing on an objective near the ghost arc. if you get hit by a demolisher cannon, you can only heal up to 3 per arc, not enough to survive a second turn of bombardment. the only thing I found theyre good at is blocking LoS for a turn or two.

In the real world I have a BS3 tank with terrible transport capability and shields that seem to roll a double 6 for damage every single time.

I've always wondered about T-wolves, offensively. The guy with the Hammer/Fist/Frost weapon is pretty strong, but his boys? I've had them lose combat to stuff like Thousand Sons and Chaos Marines, and once even a scout squad.

I don't think there's anything so powerful that it hasn't at some point gotten punked by a scout squad. How do they do that?

No idea, but I do recall my friend's 5-man GK Paladin squad losing to 4 scout marines.

Scouts is a pretty harsh unit form them to lose too. That said they don't have a lot of attacks, so the do really rely on the leader (thats what I consider the guy with special weapon), and a character if you want an effective unit. Part of why they're perceived to be really strong is that they are good againist razor spam style lists (which is basically how people judge units online)

I think its something about the scouting role, I had a squad of eldar rangers beat a great unclean one (sorry) in Close Combat once.

I think you may be onto something here. I had a pair of War Walkers kick the old Nightbringer to death in CC, granted he already had a couple wounds on him but am sure them two guardian pilots are still quite proud of themselves.

GM:"What? of course not you *****, it just carries on whistling thru the trees"
Sara:"Guys relax a zephyr is just a breeze"
Bob:"Breeze my ass, it just took 28 hit points and it's still whistling at me!"

For my nids it's Zanthropes. Assuming they survive long enough to fire I can't ever seem to get reliable results with their psychic tests or damage.

For my CSM it's obliterators. Yes, I probably speak blasphemy but since their update in the 4th edition dex, and their subsequent loss of ballistic weaponry like the heavy bolter, I find them killed quick or they don't do enough damage before CC ensues. Even DSing them never seems to net me any gains with these guys. Havoks, however, are just the bees knees for me, I take 2 squads with MLs & Autocannons in even 1500pt games and they always preform great.
