Help me find a special sculpting tool

    Hey fellow Warseerites,

Several months ago I came across a tool for making putty segmented pipes and ropes.

I now can't find it anymore as I don't remember the name of the tool or the manufacturer.

Basically the tools were a series of flat plastic cast blocks with lines of various widths in them. By running a string of putty between the blocks at various angles you could create things such as segmented pipe, rope, machined metal effects etc.

Sorry for being vague, but I really hope I can find this tool again as it is of great aid in my sculpting.

    Many thanks

    There's two I know of;
Masq-Mini Tube Tool and Green Stuff Industries Tentacle Maker.
Hope it was one of those

Thank you very much good Sir/Madam, it was the Masquerade miniatures tube tool that I was looking for. It's had a price reduction too

    Glad I could help
I've been eyeing the Masq-Mini version for quite some time, but haven't taken the jump yet. Would you mind reporting back on how it is to use if you do buy it?

Might I suggest the tool from Green Stuff Industries.
Of the two (and I've tested both), I would recommend that one over the other (the raised bumper is essential).
I have reviews of each one on my blog for reading.
    Masq-mini Ultimate tube tool
    Green Stuff Industries Tentacle maker

GSI has since come out with two more sized plates allowing for different sized tubes. This was my biggest hang-up initially and now that they have this, they are my go to tool. If you can get all three, do so. If you can only get one, get the SAW-020 as it has great detail and can be used for the majority of things.

    Hope this helps.
If you have any questions, email me and I'll do my best to answer them.

Wow, these tools look really useful! I could have done with finding these ages ago for my own hobby-related endeavours.
I'll have to try to see if I can save up and invest in some of these.

I knew I had seen reviews for those two some time ago, but couldn't find them again (mu Google-fu must be weak right now...).
The new versions of GSI do indeed look good with the smaller ridges and the handle, the only problem is cost; I can get the full set from Masq-Mini for only slightly more than a single SAW-020 from GSI It's the shipping to Sweden that piles on the price.

Razerz: While it might seem like the better option is the variety of tool sizes, I find myself using the smallest one more than any of the other ones for the scale of it. The larger sized ones might come in handy for things like titans where everything is much larger.
I'd say to save your money and get the GSI SAW-020 out of all of them. Believe me, having that bumper guard to align the top plate against along with a bit extra on the side to hold onto makes a world of a difference when it comes to using the tool.

I have the Masq-mini set and I still go for the Smallest GSI tool first.

Erm, you can make your own "bumper" using a bit of right-angle plasticard in about five seconds, it's hardly a complex concept.

If you're not in the USA, just get the Masq Mini set, they work and they're not as ludicrously priced(although still pretty expensive). I caved in after a few attempts to make my own and they're fantastic.

Yodhrin: Very true, you can try and make your own "bumper" and that's exactly what I tried to do with the Masq-mini plates I had.
After a few attempts of trying to layer plasticard and get it lined up perfectly and so on so both plates line up and the grooves are in line... I decided I should not have to pay for a tool that I then have to modify so it works the way it should.

The other downside is that the space you have on the plate to build your bumper offsets the two plates by about 1/4 of an inch and it eats into the surface area you have for making tubes. It's a minor thing, but those add up.
