    Hoplite Spears

Hi guys I hope you can help me.

can anyone recommend some nice spears for 28mm spartans?

I have been painting some 28mm Black Tree Design ones, they come with awful wire so I bought some brass rod spears off ebay but they are lethal! Seriously they are essentially needles!

    Cheers in advance

To my knowledge that's essentially the choices you have - either wobbly-bendy ones or proper wire ones but those are, as you said, lethal. To my knowledge there are no plastic spears sprues around.

WGF actually do have some plastic spear sprues. You might be able to order them individually, if you ask them.

Heck, I have a bunch I wont be using...

Have a look at gripping beast's range of metal spears. They do a cast range of 40 for £4.50 which are very nice.

The picture is blank, but e:mail them and ask them the dimensions. I have had a look through my bits box and can't find any spares. Off the top of my head they are 50mm long with nicely formed spear heads which can be cut to length easily and no chance of you killing yourself on sharpened spikes!

I bought a bunch off of ebay; Hoard o' Bits or something like that. Fairly robust though- they may be too thick for the hands.

There's an article or two on the internet in which people talk about using brush bristles as spears. It involves buying a plastic brush (such as the kind you would use to clean dishes), and cutting the bristles off. The advantage is that they're flexible, so they don't hurt you to if you poke yourself with them, and they don't snap like most plastic spears do if you put too much pressure on them. It does require a little bit of work to make the point, but that's it.
