    God of War: Ascension

Just been officially announced including a teaser trailer - no actual gameplay footage.

This is a prequel set before GoW1 - an origin story before he became the Ghost of Sparta most likely dealing with events leading up to Kratos deal with Ares and other events around that time which have been touched on briefly in the other games. So no GoW4 as such - at least they haven't tried to write themselves around GoW3s ending. Plus now all the Gods can feature again.

Looking forward to this I know they haven't changed all that much from game to game but that's what I like - I like the gameplay (QTE excluded) and that's what I want more of. I know the trailer shows Kratos getting the Blades of Chaos but it looks like he may not have them to start which could be interesting and he more than likely won't be a pale ashen colour given the events that lead to that haven't happened yet (but could feature I guess).

What will he battle he obviously can't kill any of the Gods or Titans perhaps a battle with the pre-death Alrik, the Barbarian King. The Quest for Ambrosia sounds like it would make an interesting part of the game and Gyges and Asclepius may feature as a result. This is all pure speculation on my part based on the GoW comics.

More info and trailer here (trailer requires age verification)

    Re: God of War: Ascension

Not much interest here so far

Video footage of the multiplayer mode is now online - I'm not going to post a link as it's quite gory and I don't fancy a ban. Should be easy to find.

No details on the single player yet. The multiplayer is a stand alone part of the game there is no co-op or split screen in the main campaign. Multiplayer sees 2 teams of 4 square up to each other over 7 different maps with the winning team getting to take out the maps big boss. Kratos is not available in this mode you can create your own character - choose one of 4 gods - Zeus, Ares, Poseidon or Hades to worship and your skill set weapons and armour will be based on what's available to followers of that god. You can level up and gain experience and new weapons and armour.

Much as I don't think GoW needs a multiplayer mode at least it won't interfere with the main game. Please no online trophies hate those things.

UPDATE: Brief bit about the single player

"Six months after being tricked into killing his wife and child, a younger Kratos is sentenced to a life of madness with the Furies, caged in a titan sized prison for the living damned. Fighting insanity, his will is tested to the limit as he seeks to break his bond and gain the clarity to seek revenge on Ares for his part in the death of his family. Armed with double-chained blades, Kratos must take on mythology's darkest creatures while solving intricate puzzles throughout his merciless quest for redemption."

So it looks like we will be getting the ashen coloured, chaos blades wielding, Ghost of Sparta after all.

Aye, I'm actually interested in the multiplayer - it sounds interesting, and God of War has solid enough gameplay to really carry it. Competing for the right to take on a boss is a nice twist.

I'm pretty disappointed by the single player developments, though. When Ascension was announced, I kind of had my heart set on a mortal Kratos leading his army. God of War didn't really need Chains of Olympus, and short of playing as Kratos before he became the Ghost of Sparta - it doesn't really need this either.
