    Return To The Desecration [Truescale Chaos Renegade Marines]

    Hello Chaos projects subforum, it's been a while.

    Here's something that's been bubbling on the mind for a while now. A bit of dabbling here, a "that would be cool" there and that's how it came to this, my own custom band of "Truescale" renegade marines and other warp-spawn fiends.

    So to be brief, the Desecration are a motley band of various scum and ne'er-do-wellers in purple-clad. They are scavengers and renegades of various beliefs, factions and dedications to the Runious powers. Think Chaos Marine pirates and you can't go far wrong.

    I have yet to hammer all the fluff out yet (half the fun of the project) so I'll just chuck a load of pictures down;

    (These are all heavily WIP by the way!)

    Guess the Forge World goodness?

    Some EPIC Desecration for kicks:

    I also have a summary page on my blog and a lengthy post here with my intentions and progress here.

    I love love to hears your thoughts and questions,

    Aye that's right, as the pictorial evidence below proves;

    Please excuse the whitetack holding the legs up as they set! I am going to doing odd bits of sculpting work to add fleshy sinews and tendons to the joints to further cement the daemonic nature of this beast. The head will have a heavy cephalopoda theme AKA some biomechanical feeder tendrils and tentacles.

    I'll have some more progress soon, as the first batch of five (Plague Marines) are nearing the priming stage. I also have a few Renegade Militia which I've been picking at for a while now, some of them will be completed soon as well.
    Feral

    *edit* - to the generous donator of the 5-star rating, thank you very much and I hope I keep up to high standards!

    *bows deeply*

    Thanks man, that means a lot to me!

    Now the Decimator is sub-assembled for convenience, I plunged into the start of the conversion work. To start with, the face just cried out for some feeder tendrils so I laid down the foundations:

    Still loads of Green Stuff to add here to bulk it up. I've undecided whether to keep the tendrils behind the mask as it is now, or extend them to literally grow out of the front. Thinking about it, I might do a mix of both if I can. I think some concept sketching is in order!

    One of the things I knew I had to add were muscles and tendons to the blanker parts of the models (particularly when viewed before behind) for that "demorganic" flesh/tech hybrid look:

    The camera didn't want to focus on the right bit, so that's the best view I can get at the moment! It took a bit of trying-and-testing to get the right look, but I think it now looks like the shinpad is connected to the knee joint properly now. It doesn't look like it is hanging off anymore.

    Confident in what I've done thus far, I challenged myself to a more complex muscle set behind the Storm Laser arm mount:

    It took a while to push that putty around but I am very pleased with how it looks now! I even tried to blend the pre-existant resin cables into the muscle tissue, and I'm confident after the paintjob it'll mesh together perfectly.

    That be all for now, I'll do some more on the Decimator when the sculpting work has set.

    Death To The False Emperor!

    You are taking the decimator to the next level, lovely stuff. I'll be following this closely, it's such an inspiring model. Very curious what your GS skills will do for it!

    Thank you sir, I do like to add my own personal touches. If I'm going to spend a while painting something, I might as well make it as unique and pleasing to myself as possible.

    BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD *screams at the sky*

    ...ahem..much obliged. Hope ye stick around!

    Well well, I've been a busy bee today;

    Started the sculpting work on the Blight Drone whilst I had some mixed-up Green Stuff spare. This first layer is to help cover up the hefty brass rod holding the model up. When dry, the next layers will start higher up, covering both the unsightly join where the metal wires meet the model, and also to help blend the back of the model into the end. There are a few places here and there on the main body that need attending to, mainly where I replaced frail miscast resin wires with stronger metal ones, and also to cover up where the mouldlines once were.

    I'm also contemplating to add something to the front armour section, it seems a bit blank to me and a great opportunity to add more detail. Anyone got any suggestions?

    A few tentative suggestions:
    Horns. Something of a motif amongst the Nurglich hordes. I can imagine both unicorn/rhino style ones or more lopsided asymmetrical examples. You can mix organic and artificial too, so some could look like chaos taint warping the thing and others can look like alterations made by adoring followers.

    Nurglings. Gotta love Nurglings, one or two clambering over a blight drone could be fun. Extra points if one's wearing a Biggles style flight helmet.

    Disease! A few extra buboles and pustules dotted around on the front could break it up a bit. Probably not the most challenging idea though.

    Mouth. A big grinning, yellow-toothed, mouth possibly with a tongue hanging out of it. Nurgly, Chaosy and a great way to make the already quite disturbing Daemon Engine seem a little more disturbing.

    Looking forward to seeing more .

    I'm confused by the "Truescale" I was expecting to see life sized Chaos Renegade Marines not just the same old size the models actually are. Now looking at your posts I assume the truescale reference is because previously you only did epic scale?

    Actually he's done true true scaling, which is sorting the proportions out with thin GS height boosting, not terminator Artscale marines.

    As always feral, i await this projects progression, given your other logs we'll be in for a treat.

    'Demorganic' great word. Lovely converting. Adds a whole new level of detail to an already cool mini.

    I had that suggestion on another site as well, so that seems the most probably solution to an otherwise fairly featureless part of the model. I have mused upon modified Dryad parts bursting out, your thoughts?

    Nurglings. Gotta love Nurglings, one or two clambering over a blight drone could be fun. Extra points if one's wearing a Biggles style flight helmet.
    I'll see if I can fit one on the actual model somewhere, and if not then hiding on the base. Maybe reaching out for the Blight Drone to pick him up and take him away like a small child.

    Disease! A few extra buboles and pustules dotted around on the front could break it up a bit. Probably not the most challenging idea though.
    That's a given, will add some pustules and sores in the crevasses.

    Mouth. A big grinning, yellow-toothed, mouth possibly with a tongue hanging out of it. Nurgly, Chaosy and a great way to make the already quite disturbing Daemon Engine seem a little more disturbing.
    I'll admit it's unlikely for this one but based on this piece of inspirational concept art, will make it into a Defiler down the line.

    Looking forward to seeing more.
    This pleases me greatly!

    It is isn't it? You should see the size difference between it and the model shown below...

    Pretty much what Hawke said. The "truescale" ideal is to make the models look more proportional to the far more impressive artwork. There are two plasticard spacers in each leg as well as one underneath the waist belt. Having to cut the models up so much gives me the chance to really play with pose and composition.

    I'll admit I may of read it somewhere else before but it rolls off the tongue so it's mine now!

    Whew, lots of lovely responses!

    Anyway, call it a distraction if you want but it's progress to me;

    One of my pledges for the year was to finally get some Renegade Militia done! I have decided to concentrate on making up enough for a Vraksian Renegade Attack Forces Apocalypse formation. This lovely Rogue Psyker is the first in a smallish line of other Renegade Militia, along the lines of a big old Militia Platoon, Apostate Preachers, Enforcers and a Malcador Defender which I have had for several years and done nothing with. The shame!

    More progress soon, I'm on a roll here!

    Speaking of which, the first batch of Plague Marines are primed and ready to roll (after I have finished a few other projects off);

    I'm pleased that the plasticard spacers are now invisible to the eye now the primer has gone on. I still have to design the warband logo and finalise the purple & green colour scheme, but I'll start on them soon!

    I'm not allowed to give it 6 stars, am I? These are both incredibly well done and a lot of fun. They seem like a fusion of the best of the Forge World aesthetic with the old Rogue Trader pirate look, especially the ones with Catachan heads.

    Thanks a lot dude, that's a fantastic description of what I'm aiming for. Speaking of which, I was browsing through RT-era artwork and found this delightful Khornate Renegade with a bionic eyepatch and a scorpion's tail rising up behind him. I figured I'd have to fit that look somewhere in my warband!

    Anyway, small bit of progress:

    The Blight Drone got a cluster of gnarled horns grown through the frontal plate, as well as some brass etching to add some fine detail to the otherwise-lacking front.

    The Decimator meanwhile got a few more tentacles! Where the wires meet the end of the "organic" parts will be smoothed over to blend both together soon. It's rather fiddly work!

    Oh, and I assembled an Enforcer for the Sentrek Freemen - lovely kit!
    Good times,
