Is this good basic SM list?

750 Pts - Space Marine Fleet - Space Wolves

    Total Fleet Cost: 750

    Squadron (2#, 195 pts)
    . . 1 Strike Cruiser, 145 pts
    . . . . 1 Master of the Fleet, 50 pts
    . . . . 1 Terminator boarding party 50 pts
    . . . . 0 Prow Launch Bays, 0 pts

    Squadron (1#, 145 pts)
    . . 1 Strike Cruiser, 145 pts
    . . . . 0 Prow Launch Bays, 0 pts

    Squadron (4#, 195 pts)
    . . 3 Nova, 150 pts = 3 * 50
    . . . . 1 Gladius, 45 pts

    Squadron (4#, 165 pts)
    . . 3 Hunter, 120 pts = 3 * 40
    . . . . [b]1 Gladius, 45 pts

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

Here is my way of making Tyranids...

    +++Tyranids+++

I like to convert mine and I think it is the cheapest way to do it.

Here are units I like to use...
2 Hive Ships with 2 different weapon batteries on the front and launch bays on the side.
Kraken of all sorts, but I would start with pyroacid and claws then bioplasma (faq2010).
    Vanguard with feeder tendrils.
Escorts with pyroacid then maybe some with bioplasma later.

For something like a 750pt list for Tyranids, I would get 1 hive ship (I always like the ld upgrade on them), 6 pyro-escorts to guard in front of it, and the rest kraken with pyroacid or claws. I like to add 1 vanguard with feeders into each close combat kraken squads. I don't really use the cruisers unless it is in a bigger game.

Let me know if I can be of more help.

Are you playing armada or FAQ rules? For armada I would probably take two squads of two strike cruisers and a squad of hunters at seven fifty. The FAQ adds a lot of options such as extra shields and different weapon load outs for the strike cruiser, something to look into!
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

I use just rules from GW web site - can't find any Faq similar to 40K ones there.

    Thank you for help

Can I use GK Strike cruiser as SM Strike cruiser? Or they have different size?

The size of the base is all that matters, and there are only two bases sizes: battleship and other.

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

    ah
    Ok thank you again

As I understand "battleship" base is Land Speeder sized base and "other" is gargoyls, drones, ets size base?

Can I use strike cruser not from GW Marines but for example Rogue Trader ship?
Is in BFG WYSIWG matters? (not for ships but for their weapons?)

Is there any weapons options in boxes with BFG models?

Is 1 battlebarge, 2 strike cruisers, 4 hunter destroyers, 3 gladius frigate, 3 nova frigate - for 30 GBP good deal (used but in great condition)?

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

You are right on the base sizes. Also, wysiwyg is preferred but depends on your game group. BFG plastic boxes usually have lots of options. Metal ones, not as much. Not sure about your used option.

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

As I understood - SM don't have any options on ships - only what they already have?
Tyranids on contrary have various upgrades?
Is it in general possible to use Mechanicus and/or Rogue trader cruiser as Strike Cruiser?

What fleet size would you advise for for basic training?

What markers is most needed for SM fleet - I'd like to get models (like Thundrehawks, Assault pods)
And how many such markers are in general needed?

750 is a good starting point to shoot for. You will need torpedo markers and thunderhawks you only need as many th markers as you have launch bays, it's a good idea to have 2-3 torp markers for each salvo you can fire.

Generally no you cannot take anything except strike cruisers as sc, you can however take admech as reserves rouge traders have their own rules for how to take them. Note tho if you do take them they do not get the space marine special rules although they do get the special rules from their own fleet lists.

Space Marine ship variants can be found in the FAQ2010 posted above however they still do not have quite as many options as nids
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

For some reasons players near me don't use FAQ 2010 (as they say due to it's unofficial status) - for now I dont care, I don't know rules really well.

Forge World selling Thunderhawks in pack of 10 - how many do I need to use on 1 base and how many packs usually needed?

Do I need Assault Boats/ Mines ? How many do I need to use on 1 base and how many packs usually needed?

In general I'm planning to get battlebarge, strike cruisers, hunter destroyers, gladius frigate, nova frigates for my army - will I need any other ships for my basic SM starter army? Like Firestorm Frigate maybe?

I didn't read all fleets rules for now - SM fleet can use any Imperial ship? Where I can read on such alliances ?

And now noob question - can SM fleet hold it's own in the game or Imperial/Chaos/Eldar fleets much more lets say "powerful" or easy to play?

Any BFG recourses (except YouTube) you would recommend?

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

4 to a base should be enough, and you need a base for every point of launch bay strength.

You don't have access to assault boats, that's what thunderhawks are for, but mines might be worth getting. They can be taken as orbital defences, and on occasion you can mount them in launch bays for a gimmick.

The reserves rules are found on pages 1-9 of the Armada sourcebook, rule allowing admech as space marine reserves in the Ships of Mars pdf and rouge trader rules in the 2010 compendium. There should be a pbf on games workshop site for the first two, which are official.

There are plenty of good resources out there, if you follow the top link in afterimagedan's signature, you will find a bunch of resources along the side.

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

Really when your basing the attack craft it's all ascetics, for bombers/ assault boats I would probably do 4 maybe 5 for standard fighters but with thunderhawks I think two would be enough as they're quite large compared to some of the other model ordnance. I can say that I would most certainly not press mold them and then churn out enough to fill the bases required to the point that I found the bases ascetically pleasing... As for the resources there really are a ton out there but I would focus on getting familiar with what your local group uses first (sounds like just whats on the gw site from what you said). Once your pretty comfortable with the standard rules you will also be in a better place to decide if something from say the FAQ or any of the other custom works would work better for you.

Your ship choices are fine you really shouldn't need any of the rapid strike vessels starting out although you may choose to get some as your fleet grows for points filler. I have seen a lot of people complain about space marines being too weak compared to other fleets but honestly I think it's more that they're not fluffy. The thing to remember is that the sm fleet can put out s**t loads of crits through masses of thunderhawks, teleport attacks, boarding actions, and their bombardment cannons have an increased chance to crit. Its usually easier to shut the enemy down through crits for sm then it is to destroy the enemy outright.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

My friend also got interested in BFG Eldars - can someone help build simple list for 1000 - 1500 pts?

Corsair Eldar: I recommend a Void Stalker, Eclipse, 6 or so Nightshades (which rule), 6 or so Hemlocks, and 3 Aconites.

    Yes.

Or drop Eclipse for an Aurora plus extra escorts.
