Thread: Nid player/ Space Marine player

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

    For Craftworld Eldar,
    official rules:
download Yriels Raiders + Doom of the Eldar at the GW site

    better:
the craftworld eldar rules from FAQ 2010/compendium. At least use FAQ2010 in addition to the rules at GW for yriel/hero clarifications.

    alternative:
    Eldar mms
    http://www.tacticalwargames.net/arch...ldarmms01.html

    / regardless of rulesets:
    For a 1000pts build:
1 Dragonship - weapon batteries, launch bays
    3 Wraithships - pulsars - torps
    as a core.

    add a 4th Wraithship (wb+ lb) or 3-4 Shadowhunters.
Vampire assault boats are a good asset.

Under official rules/compendium: never ever take Ghostships
Under mms they're a viable option.

    For a 1500pts build:
    add a Dragonship (wb/lb) + Wraithship (pl/tt) to above.
    add vampires, aspect warriors.

In the 1500pts build you can replace a Dragonship with the Flame of Asuryan (upgrade your admiral to Hero) (Void Dragon under MMS).

I love the Flame of Asuryan modelwise & gaming wise. Many time game winner (3 Barges on its tally, Imperial cruisers destroyed in one turn, etc).
Plus I tend to go overkill on it... Hero + Max re-roll..
And I use it under 1250pts as well... yeah!

It is my favourite fleet anyway.

Those three ships are all Craftworld Eldar, not Corsair. You can't normally mix the two fleets unless you take an eldar hero, which allows you to use the reserves rules to combine them.

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

lolz, his initial question was Eldar. He didn't even specify Corsair or Craftworld (or dark of the matter). I didn't notice as well.

And yes, with a Hero you can mix.

    This can do carnage:
    hero
    Flame of Asuryan
    Void Stalker
    Nightshades

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

Heavier carrier type ships can be awesome VBBs. Despoiler, I think, would be a good option.

Gunships! Apocalypse, Retribution, Desolator all make really good vbb. These are followed by the Vengeance and Armageddon then to a lesser extent the Overlord and Hades. For carriers the Despoiler is probably your best bet, the Emperor seems to be a favorite but it's slow speed really works against you in a marine fleet, your also probably not getting the full value of the +1leadership the Oberon suffers the same problems and in current form it doesn't bring long range weapons to the table wither so I'd say it's out. Next I would say its a toss up between the Exorcist and Styx (durability/ weapons vs more launch/ lances) and finally the Mars which although a nice ship, it just doesnt compare to your other options.

The choice really should be based off your fleet and wither you want a ship to fill the gap in ranged weapons or lances or if you want a more carrier heavy that can still bring some added punch.

Some good combos are Desolator and bombardment strike cruiseers backed up with standard strike cruisers for a speed focus. Standard strike cruisers with a Despoiler (or Emperor or Styx) for a large carrier force. A force focused around a heavier gunship such as the apoc or ret backed up by a standard bb and standard strike cruisers can be pretty devastating also. The smaller ships tend to work best when filling a specific gap, geddon or hades can provide lr firepower in lower pt value games, same for the Styx just with launch craft.
I don't make the rules, I just think them up and write them down.

Despoiler is a neat option fluffwise. Pity its stats are screwed.

    Thank you
I can't find Styx class on GW website. BTW Is there an difference (except model) for SM frigates from Forge World or GW web sites?

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

No difference between FW/SG models for Marine escorts except prize & looks.

    Styx = Chaos heavy cruiser
All Chaos heavy & regular cruisers are to be build from the cruiser box.

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

Is there any tactics/strategy materials for BFG - I'm really new so such general information would greatly help.

  16. #36

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

Tons, everyone has an opinion on how best to play There used to be one on the gw site with the BFG resources but it's garbage IMO there have been some in warpstorm also.

Re: Nid player/ Space Marine player

Correct, the one on the gw website is rubbish.

Check out Warp Rift (see my signature) for couple of tactica's in some issues.
