    New wash question

So I bought the new Ogryn flesh wash (I think it's called reikland wash now), and put it on a few models, but it looked nothing like my old ogryn. First off, the miniatures became sticky, secondly, they became incredibly shiny (it looked like they were covered in goo!), did I just get a bad pot of wash, or has something happend?

Hmmm, did you give the pot a good shake before using it? Might be that it needs a good mixing.

Sounds like you got a pot that was either dried out, or had a bad batch of medium in it.

Ok. This has happend two times now (albit from the same store with the same shipment). Has anyone experienced this? The figures became incredibly shiny, just like the basic armypainter wash - the guy from the store even gave me my money back when I showed him.

Like Wicksy said, did you actually shake the pot well?

Hmmm, seems GW might have shot themselves in the foot there. I've heard of a few people now who have complained of this. Some of the guys of on the Tale of three painters blog have had sim ilar issues i believe. Though apparentlt Army Painter have brought out 3 new washes to replace the GW Badab black, devlan mud and gryphon sepia paints that are now discontinued.

That's not really true The inks they've bought out match the colour of the dips they do (Light, Strong and Dark tones) exactly. They are slightly thicker than the GW washes but are very good alternatives.

I bought up a load of devlan mud when I heard it would be no more but I've tried the army painter Strong Tone dip and it as good as, if not better than devlan mud for all-over model washing.
It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye... and then it's just fun!

You must have just got unlucky. I've been using the Green and Purple washes (whatever they're called...) and they seem to work fine. Certainly no crazy shiny models afterwards! Try another shop/order online?

Shaking it did diminish the problem, but it did not remove it - I bought the last 4 bottles of Ogryn flesh from a norwegian webstore, so Im fine for the moment, but I really hope the problem will go away in time.

    Re: New wash question

It happened to the old washes on occasion, as well. I had more than a few Devlan Mud incidents where the wash looked like an old ink instead of the trusty Mud that we all know and love. Shaking did seem to help, but on older pots that were almost running out it sometimes wouldn't go away with shaking.

Haven't used much of the new washes yet, but haven't noticed it. Hopefully it's not widespread.

To master any skill you must accept doing it poorly at first.
