Red face Skinks and OOP Lizardmen (Demortu)

Hello and welcome to my second project log!

My previous log was a grubby swamp ogre log with a rather ‘marmite’ love it or hate it grubby paint scheme. I’ve now just moved house and have yet to uncover a lot of my painting gear and jointly inspired by the new selection of paints available I’ve decided to try something a bit different.

This time rather than starting with a background idea I’m starting with a box of skinks and an aim to create a vibrant – relatively clean – colour scheme. I’m not working to an army list as, for one reason, I only own the 5th edition army book.

    So, here’s my first skink:

Only two things are left to do. The javelin shaft will be a light wood colour (probably something along the lines of bleached bone + snakebite leather) but I need to buy/find the necessary paints. He also requires a shield and I intend to use the old Saurus shields from the 5th edition Warhammer box set (which I need to find amongst my boxes!) which will be painted bronze. One of these can be seen held by a gnoblar in the third post of my previous blog.

Aside from the box of skinks I’ve dug out an OOP kroxigor and Inxi-Huinzi on Cold One, which according to the yellowing receipt I bought on 1st June 2000 for £6; poor chap’s desperate for a paint job!

Anyways, enough of a ramble – feedback’s welcome and encouraged!

You wanted a vibrant color scheme and you managed to do it perfectly. I really the crest, I think I've never seen a crest painted like that before and yet the idea seems so simple. Keep the nice work up!

Not bad man, not bad at all.

I like the nice bright crisp green with the red/orage crest.

The attention to detail is great, I really like the mix of colours on the crest. Keep up the good work

Love the paint job, and naturally the crest is what makes it pop. I hope you can do that 200 more times without developing carpel tunnel - I've found that my "basic" Skink style has proven to be a bit challenging to repeat over and over again, not to mention my Saurus, which have tiger stripes...it will all be worth it in the end, right? If you like the Old School figures, take a peek at my sculpting/conversion plog, here: http://www.lustria-online.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5025

Good luck and I'll be checking back here regularly too

Re: Skinks and OOP Lizardmen (Demortu)

    Hi folks!

Thanks for the brill comments! Sorry it’s taken me such a long time to get back to some of you, I was determined to get at least a few models completed before posting again – which I haven’t yet managed. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you view things! ) I’ve wound up rather busy with assignments and exams (doing an evening foundation degree), learning to drive and marriage preparation (the big day’s in September… and I didn’t realise quite how much time would get absorbed by it!).

That said, my last two exams are tomorrow evening (yes, I should be revising right now!) so that should at least free up a little time.

Student: Thanks! I'm a big fan of both your Tileans and your Tartan Orcs!

ArtificerArmour: Thanks! ...and off topic, but regarding your quote, have you seen this?? http://www.totalfilm.com/news/jurass...-screenwriters I'm pretty excited as I rather like Planet o' the Apes.

AzhagMorglum: Thank you! It is my intention to keep things relatively clean and crisp in this log, which I have never ever managed before with my models!
I’ve had a quick gander at your log and will give it some proper attention when I have time. I have a real soft spot for the old trolls, squigs and O&G catapult; they really are classics with bundles of character! I found all your work with different greens interesting too, as I had to do a bit of experimentation with my skinks!

N810: That’s a lot of green! Here’s hoping I someday make it to five completed models… Great to see Tichi-Huichi’s raiders painted up! I managed to get a box on eBay back in April to give Inxi-Huinzi some company. Your stuff looks brilliant – and lovely and green . I’ll give your log some more time and have a proper look through before commenting!

MOMUS: Thanks for the encouragement! At my current rate I suspect I will never reach the heady heights of your plog – great stuff!

Altbob: Thank you! I suspect I’ll never complete an army of these fellas, and I’m not sure I intend to…yet . Your log looks really interesting and great greenstuffing skills! I particularly like this fella: http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...hampion001.jpg although I haven’t had a proper look through the whole log yet! Interestingly enough I’m attempting a tiger-like pattern on my cold ones, ala: http://jplegacy.org/jurassicpark3/ffissue6/TLWrap.JPG, although I’m not sure how successful I’ll be!

Toshiro: Thank you! When I have some more time I’ll take a proper look at your battle report and the fluff therein, it certainly looks interesting!

I don’t want to leave without showing anything, so here's a hastily photographed pic of some of the models awaiting attention which have been sat atop my bookcase since the end of April.

    See y'all in August ,

Hm, it's already far past august, I wonder if we'll see something more about it, i hope so, this skink is really promising - by the way, I'm wondering on the green skin, and I'm not sure what colors were used - dear Demortu, if you will come back to this thread, can I count on you?

Arucarddd: Hello! Um, yes I must admit my timing was a bit off. I really hadn't taken account of how much time would be spent prepping for the wedding in September, and have since been honeymooning and settling back into normal life .

On a brighter note, whilst working on my kroxigor recently, i wrote things down as I went along as I couldn't quite remember what I was doing, here it is:

    White [Undercoat]
    Moot Green [Base]
    Biel-Tan Green [Shade]
    Moot Green [Layer 1]
Moot Green + Flash Gitz Yellow [Layer 2]
Layer 2 + more Flash Gitz Yellow [Layer 3]
    Waywatcher Green [Glaze]

Well, I hadn't actually done anything since my last post up until two weeks ago when I picked up a Dreadstone Blight and Airbrush (inspired by Byron's fabby tutorial - found here) and set up a painting area for myself. I've done a little work on the Blight and last night finished off the skin of the Cold One, as below. My next post will contain a finished model - promise!

Very cool one! It will look truly beautiful on the battlefield.

I hope you liked the reps and fluff if you managed to check them out.

    Congrats on the wedding!
