    Fancy Goldfish Spawning!

My fancy goldfish have been displaying mating behaviour for a while, but we (my partner and I) thought the tank was too cold for them to spawn - until today we noticed eggs on one of the plants! Does anyone have any tips about what we should do? I've been trying the internet but it mostly seems to be about breeding tropical fish...

well with fish i would remove the eggs to their own tank with filter etc, as the goldfish mite find them a nice snack!

What makes goldfish fancy? Do they wear little tophats?

I concur. I've had fish eat their own eggs because they're stupid and then eat the fry when they hatch just because they were moving. I nice clean goldfish bowl would probably do the job. At least until they're big enough not to get munched.

TWO FISH ENTER! ONE FISH LEAVES!

Go on....Goldfish deathmatch! You know it makes (probably completley illegal and certainly morally objectionable) sense!

Well, we've set up a second, shallow tank, with a heater and an airstone. Awaiting fry.

On an amusing note, I rang my father and told him he was going to be a grandfather. His reaction was priceless

You should probably look at getting some Methylene Blue from your local aquarists supplier (and some latex gloves from Boots to handle it, as it'll stain your fingers quite nicely) - it'll protect the eggs and fry from fungus/bacteria.
