It's in there.
If you found it pointless before, you'll find it pointless now. And a lot of Gamers begging to differ.
It's in the book. It was never pointless to take.
NOTE: my use of the word "powergamer" is not meant as a derrogatory or inflammatory word used in a negative context. It is used to describe a type of player that uses power builds
It's in there, it's a bit cheaper now, giving you the oppertunity to combine it with some other equipment. It was okay before, but pretty expensive. An option I like with the new, cheaper runefang, is a grandmaster with the runefang and other trickster's shard on a barded warhorse with shield. 4 WS6 auto-wound no armour save attacks (if you keep the new hurricanium close by the grandmaster will always hit on 3+, often 2+), and enemies have to reroll succesful wardsaves. This guy's pretty good at killing.. well.. anything. Fairly fast at initiative 6 too.

Without the restriction of "general of the empire only" and a 15% price decrease, it's certainly more viable than it was.
Armies I play:
Ogre kingdoms
Zombie pirates
Skaven
Slayers
15% eh.... offers a bit...
and no i found it useless before if i didnt get my ward save n keep it up on my general. i used it 3 times vs VC and one time i actually survived a round in a duel against a vampire lord!
btw the build i was using was just:
General of the empire
runefang
full plate
shield
no horse, so a 3+ armor save and a rune fang. he looked awesome, even as he died.

15% pointreduction means you can either give him The Other Tricksters Shard (my personal favourite), or Charmed Shield + Luckstone + Potion of Speed (or Ironcurse icon).
Don't underrestimate the Runefang on a Grand Master who has +1 to hit and hatred.
I've killed 'unkillable' dwarflords (1+/1+/4++) with it, and I don't think unkillable Dreadlords would fare much better.
In fact, the Runefang is one of the better items in our magic-items department right now. It, the White Cloak and possibly the Steel Standard.
I think the new Runefang is a gift from Sigmar himself, With no restrictions and cheaper cost there's nothing wrong with taking this thing... well unless you're going for a hard to kill general and not a fighty one. that or a mage... which would be horrible
If i learned one thing... Guns Work
Can't get hatred from warrior priests. Righteous Fury now specifically excludes characters. Your point still stands however - a runefang on grand master is far more viable, especially if +1 to hit is around. At that stage it's like getting on for 4 automatic wounds a turn. Which is funky!

actually, you could have 4 runefangs in the army. Karl franz, kurt helborg, and marius all have em, plus the generic one.
Armies I play:
Ogre kingdoms
Zombie pirates
Skaven
Slayers

- Luminarks, Hurricanums, Robot-horses and skaven laser cannons have made me a better person. A man can only hate so much and these awful units just seem able to soak it all
Well he starts with a 1+ save... Add a wardsave/regen save with the remaining points and send him to hunt elite cav or something. Hitting at I6 and WS6 hes the only combat monster empire has acces to (aside from special characters)
Besides a unit of reiksguard (for example) wont benefit from his immume to psychology but with LD9 and stubborn who really gives a damn. Even if you lose combat they wont budge (specialy if you manage to get the BSB in range) making for a pretty solid roadblock![]()
Maybe not effective though but at least they will look neat![]()
With the +1 to hit from a Hurricanium anything is a worthwhile target realy, especially weedier troops.
He'll usually cause an extra 4 kills in a fight, which is a handy amount.
Ws6 and +1 to hit means 2+ to hit most things, even enemy elites.
His best target would likely be something a cannon would normally be fired at, like a War Sphinx or similar.
Although there's little reason to engage such things while you have cannon around to take care of the issue.
Yea but then youll have to buy a Hurricanum and then you've already spend a lot of points making the Runefang work. And its still only 4 attacks.
It certainly aint useless, but it can be hard to squeeze a profit out of...especially if you end up facing woodies or Skaven
