Thread: You are a lowly villager in the Empire and there is a Zombie Outbreak

You are a lowly villager in the Empire and there is a Zombie Outbreak

What was your profession (anything from farmer to outdoors-man to pickpocket) and how does it help you survive (anything from better equipment to a skill)?

Think towards more of a group survival and having to fight through it type scenario, not (the obvious real outcome) hiding in one's house or the easiest way to kill yourself

Also try to think of as many as possible. Here is what I / my group / this forum thought of so far:
    1) Huntsman - Bows, Survival in harsh conditions
    2) Militia - More skilled in combat than your average Joe
    3) Engineer - Gun
    4) Blacksmith - Make quality weapons or armor
    5) Duelist - Swift and efficient
    6) Lumberjack - Strong, Access to large Felling Axe
    7) Town Leader - Able to keep everyone together
    8) Alchemist - Access to potions and medicine
    9) Priest of Morr - miracles to take down the undead with and lore about them
    10) Noble - personal guard, good equipment, a riding horse, most likely knowledge of fencing
    11) Battle Wizard - knowledge of Necromancy and great power
    12) Coachman - a coach and horses to draw it
    13) Messenger - riding skills and a fast runner
    14) Barber - Surgeon, medical knowledge
    15) Rat catcher - a small but vicious dog, knowledge of the sewers
    16) Butcher - Knowledge of ... cleaving I suppose
    17) Messanger - Speed

    Denial:
) Halfling Fieldwarden - No halflings in our game!

Re: You are a lowly villager in the Empire and there is a Zombie Outbreak

Hm... more information is needed I think. Bear in mind that zombies in warhammer are not as a result of some plague or being bitten, its from being raised by a necromancer. And zombies one on one are fairly useless. They are like the very old horror movie zombies, not the new age ones that can sprint and climb walls and such.

Bearing this in mind, if its one or two zombies walking around, its actually not such a big problem, maybe it happens fairly often in the empire (Oh dear, aunty Mildred has come back from the grave!). Since they are so slow, you can form a posse and attack them at leisure with garden implements etc and its all good. Sean of the Dead style even =)

BUT other than on Geihemisnacht, this would not be the scenario. Zombies are only useful in immense numbers and are often backed up by necromancers, skeleton hordes, vampires etc.

Only one person I'd really want or need in my group, the local Vampire and/or Necromancer who would naturally be my friend and direct the zombies not to eat my face off.

    Is that allowed?

Re: You are a lowly villager in the Empire and there is a Zombie Outbreak

    Allright I'll add a few:
    9) Priest of Morr, miracles to take down the undead with and lore about them
    10) Noble, personal guard, good equipment, a riding horse
    11) Battle Wizard, knowledge of Necromancy and great power
    12) Coachman, a coach and horses to draw it
    13) Messenger, riding skills and a fast runner
    14) Barber-Surgeon, medical knowledge
    15) Halfling Fieldwarden, great aim with a sling and knowledge of the undead
    16) Rat-catcher, a small but vicious dog, knowledge of the sewers

A zombie outbreak in a warhammer village would probably be caused by a necromancer (a vampire would be way to mean to throw on a group of survivors once they find him) but most people wouldn't know that. A scenario where a vengeful necromancer returns to wreak the town that *insert horrible act* to him a long time ago would work well I think.

I would be a local village idiot.

Many people hate me for my constant begging and foul smell, but most of them regard me as somewhat entertaining and harmless. Children laugh at my weird and funny stories and how I wear my underwear wrapped around my head. I never burden myself with physical labour, so I tend to regularly observe people and happenings. I know a lot, which often produces surprising allies.

I'm not dependant on anything or anyone. I know all the best hiding places and where to steal if I have to. On top of that, I look and smell bit like a Zombie, so with luck I could distract them for a while. I think I could survive pretty long during the outbreak, particularly if I had managed to keep the good townspeople entertained.

I'd just hope that all those innocent men women and children i've sacrificed to the dark gods pay off in the form of me being blessed by the gods and then go and kill all the other villagers... oh i mean kill the zombies....

I'd just be villager #42, armed with a relatively heavy blunt object. I can't see Warhams zombies being that much trouble for me, I'll simply bludgeon to (re)death any that come near me and wait for the overly heroic adventurers to take out whoever raised the zombies. If my stick breaks I'd climb up somewhere high and drop rocks on them, and on any Marauder warbands that seek to capitalize on the recent outbreak.

Yes this is all true, but for the sake of what my gaming group wants to do assume then that there are zombies, skeletons, ghouls, maybe a fell bat or two, etc, all running amok - things you can't run from forever.

    ALSO:

Stop posting that you're the vampire or necromancer that isn't the point

Zombies (well, undead) can also spontaneous raise because of the winds of magic, or in certain magic-infested areas. A chunk of nearby warpstone might also throw the local cemeteries in turmoil.
How about being a farmer? These ought to be the most numerous ones in any smaller town.
so 17) farmer: slow runner because his back is broken, but proficient with a fork, a spade, a scythe or any such farming tool, tools he has plenty access to. Might also have access to a workhorse.

Id put a bucket over my head that still left my mouth open, whatever I could fit around my neck to keep my head attached firm, and whatever fireproof clothing that doesn't cover up my hands. Hey, I'm a villaiger... I'm GOING to be a zombie by the end of this... might as well be the best protected zombie against brain-death, fire, and decapitation I can be!

I am a retired Blood Bowl blitzer. Having spent several years in the Reikland Reavers reserve squad, my enormous talent overlooked due to the ridiculous attention lavished on my team mate, Griff Oberwald, I never played for the first team. Seriously embittered by this experience, I retired to this awful little village, having long ago alienated any friends or family. Now facing an ignominious death - to go with a less than stellar career - I intend to take out several years of suppressed rage on the Zombies; I still know a few moves and dirty tricks that should keep them on the right side of the line of scrimmage...

Dung Gatherer: Terrible smell and dishevelled appearance makes zombies less likely to attack unless they get really close.
Local Lothario: Ability to sneak, hide, and (possibly) make a play for any lady necromancers.
Innkeeper: Physically strong (due to lugging those barrels/drunks), access to molotov cocktails, possibly drunk (which could be a good or bad thing with him being brave but careless)
Harlot: Ability to persuade other characters to provide assistance in various ways . . .
