Necron Royal Court question.

* Any number of Crypteks that are in a Royal Court can be upgraded to a single, specific type of Harbinger. Whilst you can have any number of Harbingers of a specific type, each of the Harbinger's unique wargear options can only be chosen once in each Royal Court (see page 84)

Now then. Does that mean that If I take Nemsor Zahndrekh who allows a Royal Court, and i Want to spruce up many units with Harbingers of the Storm with lightning field, That I cannot and am limited to only ONE Cryptek Harbinger of the storm?

Or Is it that they cannot be in a full unit with the same or cannot be identical? im Kinda lost on its exact ruling unless the above first option is the ruling. Anyway Thanks in advance for any and all comments.

A royal court consists of 0-5 crypteks (and 0-5 lords). Each cryptek can be upgraded to any type of harbinger, so you can have 5 harbingers of the storm all in one court, or 3 harbingers of the storm and 2 harbingers of destruction etc. The oly limitation is that you can buy a certain wargear once per court, so although you can have 5 harbingers of the storm in one court, only one of them can have the lightning field.

A: They must all have the weapon upgrade of their
harbinger. Only the optional wargear is unique.

So that means you can have as many Harbingers of the Storm, but only 1 of them will be able to take the lightning field. Note this restriction is applied per royal court, so if you had a 2nd court then you could take another lightning field in that one.

Indeed I also believe this is the case. However I have a couple of questions regarding cryptecs:
1 - Does Lightning Field works when the necrons assault? I believe it does not.
2 - Does seismic crucible stacks if the same unit is targetted twice? I believe that only the highest result is applied.
3 - Ether Crystal - how does it works on drop pods, spores, etc? I believe both the "transport" and the unit are affected (similarly to coteaz faq)

1. No it doesnt activate when the necron unit assaults if it did no-one would even consider using it because the hits are explicitly resolved against "the assaulting unit", which in that case would be the Necron unit itself.

2. My feeling is the effect would stack, (at least I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't) but only if the two crypteks bearing the crucibles were attached to the same unit, obviously if the crypteks were attached to different units the targeted unit can only assault one of them and would therefore only be affected by one crucible.

3. I'd also cite Coteaz as precedent, so I agree with you.

I agree, it just seems... too powerful: highest of 2D6 - 2D3 is quite harsh!

If you consider you need 2 courts and 80 points for saving 1 unit from assaults, it seems a bit underwhelming.

What about Kill Points for royal courts?

They a kp each, or per court? and what if they attach to other units? They worth 1 kp per model in that case?

Also, if they ARE independant characters and they exist in a squad of their own (lance sqd for example) could each member of that court break off and go their own way?

You split models from the court before deployment. So if you have 2 units of warriors and a court of 5 members and you decide to join 1 cryptek to each unit, then you would have 3KPs total: 1 for each unit of warriors(and attached cryptek) and 1 for the RC of 3 members.

Neither Crypteks nor Necron Lords are Independant Characters. However, it is possible to attach all members of a Court to other squads, thus eliminating the squad altogether. Note that the squad would not count as destroyed in this way, and would not garner a kill point.
