    First time building a pc

Hey guys, so ive been looking into getting a new pc for awhile when a friend suggested that i should build my own, after looking into it, it seems like a good idea, so ive been looking at parts recently and have come up with a rough first build and i was hoping some veteran pc builders would take a glance over it and point out if ive made a really basic mistake, or even an advanced one =P or share some general tips aswell, for which i would be very grateful thanks guys.

So this is the plan right now

    CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor
    Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Pro4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
    Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Hard Drive: Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: Asus Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card
    Power Supply: OCZ 500W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply
Optical Drive: Sony AD-7280S-0B DVD/CD Writer
    Total: £623.91

This lot comes to ~£650 which is roughly my budget, so what'd you guys think? Will it do well playing games such as skyrim and call of duty? Will it be a capable gameing machine for the next few years?

Thanks alot for all you input

Without researching it I'm assuming the Motherboard is indeed an Intel I5 compatible motherboard.

Otherwise that build looks frighteningly similar to my own, which is around 12 months old now. It still pounds most modern games into the dirt (Skyrim will play with almost everything set to high).
Just remember that to use the 8Gb of RAM you'll need a 64 bit version of Windows.

Otherwise everything is looking pretty good from where I'm sitting

    Looks pretty good mate.
Considering you want to keep the machine for a few years, the only change I would recommend would be the power supply. Get something with a little more grunt in it. The reason being, the most frequent upgrade you would be doing to keep the machine up to date would be the graphics card. Newer cards tend to need more power.

Do it right from the get go and upgrades will be easier to come by.

I've never bothered upgrading an already built PC - when the time comes I simply ship it off and rebuild the whole thing (normally on a 2 to 3 year cycle). Perhaps not the most economical solution but it tends to cause a lot less headaches that way.

    That's fair enough mate.
When I build PC's I normally keep them for 2-3 year cycle while upgrading only the GPU in that time. Sometimes you just get that game which will require more grunt from a new card to run great. This year though I put in a few SSD's and wow...awesome performance.

Anyway, best of luck with the build my friend!

In addition to graphics card changes, and maybe a RAM upgrade, you should be able to get one CPU change in before all the socket sizes change.
    Where's the kaboom?
