teclis at 2000 points-what to do

I may start a threat asking this, but I want to ask here first. Is all high elf magic as incredibly boring to play against as when an opponent fields teclis/book of hoeth? I played my friend bob twice this weekend, once with teclis and once with book of hoeth caster. It was so boring in the magic phase. Usually, magic is tactful and thought out. With the book of hoeth and teclis, I ended up just canceling spells I could. Everything else was IF and it made the phase point and click. No tactics, no thought, no fun.

High elves suck, Teclis is the only thing that makes them playable. Just fly a kitted ghoul king over and kill him. Or vargheists and kill him. Or a vargulf and kill him. Or a terrogheist and kill him.

Like you said, hexwraiths are a good idea... To field Teclis safely you need banner of world dragon bsb in bunker of 12 phoenix guard with 3 units per rank so teclis never sees combat, or magic spells. Seeing as the high elf player has such a soft list everyone should stop whining and look at greedy fisting death mage of the ogres.

It didn't come down to him being broken though. It came down to him being lame to play against. they are playable without teclis. It just seemed too simple to. He is good, but so expensive. I had more chaff drops then he had guys. Granted, our armies are each oddities, but my tar pit zombies plus ALL my ethereal cavalry were equal to teclis.

If the only way that you can do well with high elves is to include Teclis, then you may want to reevaluate how you play the game. Teclis can easily be taken care of. Its just a very one dimensional game. You kill him, you win. You fail to do so, you lose. It very much plays out like a Warmahordes game.

When I say win with High Elves, I mean in a tournament settng. High elves are very far back in the competitive scene. Friendly play here is considered a waac list with ETC rules, that is when I drop Teclis, but get other bonuses from the special rules...
