Word on the street is Mantic are...

Going to be releasing not one, not two, but three different Human armies and the make up is believed to be...

An Army of Light - good guys, angelic aspect etc.

An Army of Nature - Druidic influence

An Army of Darkness - Chaos cultists?

Sounds awesome to me, came from a mantic staffer btw so shhhhh

My lips are sealed, I will definitely not post this on any public forum!

    Army of Nature sounds awesome.

If this is true I think it's a great idea, and I hope they continue to stray away from the budget-warhammer image they currently have.

The "army of nature" could make a useful woodelf proxy if done correctly, without taking the uniqueness of this aspect of the human trilogy away.
Trying to convince Warseer that GW are anything less than perfect is like trying to teach a horde of zombies that lettuce is a perfectly acceptable alternative to brains.

My interest in these is dependant on what direction they take them.

The one I'd heard most about, I'll like these if we get good looking plastic kits for female paladins and/or angels.

An Army of Nature - Druidic influence
There's a bunch of stuff they could do with this that I'd like to see - Amazons, dryads, centaurs, totem warriors, elementalists & elementals...

An Army of Darkness - Chaos cultists?
Nothing comes to mind that I'd like to see out of these. I don't expect much out of the background either - with the exception of the Dwarves, I haven't been impressed by Mantic's attempts to flesh out evil factions.

Wow that all sounds rather promising. Good, solid themes. Lets see how they're backed up with art and models.

Any rough idea on release dates? I assume we won't get all human types at the same time.

Won't be until at least 2013 but there's some pretty exciting ideas coming out. There was the temptation to put these out with the book, but we didn't want to throw any unbalanced lists into the book, it'd just be silly.

Ah, cool, so these will be the armies for the 3-list expansion book then.

So, would that mean there will be 4 human armies in total? The current Kingdoms of Men list as a generic mostly, human-only, catch-all for people's existing collections, and then the 3 uniquely mantic human/other stuff armies to follow in the expansion?

I'm most interested in the Nature army myself, can see a lot of potential with that for all manner of creatures. Werewolves could even slot into it nicely if you want to get more mileage out of the restic kit you're making. Tree-creatures are another thing that could for both the elf list and the Nature list. Some bow-armed ranger humans in cloaks would be great, as would elementals.

I imagine the army of darkness would be a quasi-chaos army? If the current agreement with avatars of war allows for it, that could be a quick army to flesh out, with mantic making the light human equivalent (eg, marauders/cultists) and acting as a dealer for AoW warriors to fill out the chaos warrior equivalent. AoW has lots of characters to quickly support that faction too.

This right here is the reason my friends don't get of why I love Mantic's rule sets.

For the army of darkness I would love to see a troop type that could be a Chaos thug or Chaos cultists.
GW really missed the boat when they moved away from those guys.
Evil with a human touch can be very flavoursome.
Please no silly big armoured muppets in the 35mm scale, please let it be real and more human and sinister.

Please have cultists in robes! Those are what's missing in the miniature world!

My wishlist unit would be to ask you to make a very, very customizable small unit. I'm thinking ~5-10 models (probably 5), but LOTS of options/bitz. It would be a great alternative to GW's Empire Militia, which is imo the best current customizable-oriented unit set for skirmish-level games like Mordheim. Unfortunately, it comes with waaay too many units (20 models for a warband? Really?), and something with 5 models in the ~$10 price range with tons of customizable options (Rifles, alternative heads, torsos, arms, legs, weapons, etc) would be a godsend for me

Re: Word on the street is Mantic are...

Are these going to replace the existing list?

Is the core book going to contain the existing human list and then the expansion book will have these 3 extra ones?

I’m very interested in the answer to this question. I’m also hoping the answer is yes because I’m going to be extremely disappointed if my army is going to become unusable or something I don’t like because mantic decide to add forced flavor to the human lists…
I’m impressed with what you have now, but I that will just become a betrayal if you go and change it as drastically as it looks like these could be. I simply don’t want a human army with a zealot, nature or darkness themed list.

I like the overall rule set of KOW and prefer it to warhammer. However, the biggest pull to me was both the balance and the human rule set. The sheer generalness of the human list is awesome! Don’t take this away…

    Hello Autumn Leaves,
Thank you for the exciting news about the possible developments in the Kingdoms of Men army list! Did your source mention whether Mantic plans to make models to accompany the new lists?

I would love for there to be infantry styled like chaos thugs. Much cooler than marauder style stuff.

Re: Word on the street is Mantic are...

Hmm the old chaos thugs were great, with suitably varied styles to add to the chaos-i-ness of the unit, GW definatly missed the boat with their gimp harness chaos mobs.

THIS is how a REAL chaos marauder/thug should look.

Add horns and mutations and those models would be even better orcsbain.

Re: Word on the street is Mantic are...

My source simply said that these armies were coming out from Mantic down the line, no time frame was given, the implication was clearly that models would definitely be involved, not just lists.
There will be an angelic element to the Army of light.

I don't know anything in terms of detail about the Army of Darkness, however, my personal wish is for thugs and cultists who are more sinister human and less freaky deaky alien style. I'm thinking that may well be the way Mantic go in ternms of how they have sculpted their themes so far.
