Happiness abounds! (Aka, I can finally play again)

So over the last year I've moved to a larger city to go to university, I checked out the game stores here, but all the guys were much, much older than me. Normally this wouldn't bother me, except they treated me like a kid. So I went without 40k or any other miniature games for a while and sold off my armies. (Which I now regret)

However, I finally made friends with some guys in my Chemistry class, and by coincidence we've all collected 40k since we were little kids. So we've decided to start playing again. I am so glad to have my favorite hobby back.

Both of them have over 3000 points though, so I really need to start building an army. Turns out all it takes to get over the fact that I think 40k is overcosted is to have buddies that want to play with you!

I was hoping Chaos Marines would be coming out this summer, but what with us having no idea what is actually coming first I am now stuck between about a billion armies trying to decide which to play. Do I go Tau or Necrons or Dark Eldar or Eldar or Chaos Marines even though I hate their 'dex? Or do I go back to my Dark Angels roots, what with the rumours of a codex being on the horizon. I know I'll be playing against 'Nids, Orks, Black Templar, and Marines so I don't want to either overpower or underpower them.

So many decisions to make, but so much happiness to go with them!

Sorry for the ramble and everything, looking over this post it feels kinda livejournal-y, but I just had to get it out, haha.

My advice? Ask to use some of their minis so you can play against them in smaller games. When 6th ed hits, buy whatever revs your engine. We are probably around 2.5 months out from a new edition, at at least one new codex...if you buy a new army now, buyers remorse might be right around the corner.

Yeah Monospot has a great point there, the nice thing is that your friends both have over 3000 points, so there should be enough spare models for you to get the hang of the things before the new edition changes things up.
