    bloodswarm scarabs!

any viability in attaching obyron and some royal court lords to a flayed one pack and then using the stormlords boodswarm scarabs to deepstrike them with no scatter?

just thought it would be something different, i dont expect it to be very competitive

I think the model with the bloodswarm scarabs have to be on the board already to prevent the flayed ones from scattering.

Well, sadly, you can't attach Royal Court models to Flayed Ones. Obyron can join them, but the Bloodswarm Scarabs only work when the unit enters play, and not just any time Obyron uses his mantle.

Actually they are reasonable for their points cost. I have used 10-15 flayed ones in quite a few games now and they always do something useful - be it killing ork lootaz or wrecking manticores.

The thing people fail to see is that you can't compare flayed ones to say grey hunters or some of the more dedicated combat units... and why is that? because the Necrons don't get any of these. We have the option for wraiths (who lack reanimation protocols), lychguard (who are too slow and expensive), and praetorians (who don't have enough attacks and are too expensive). Oh and we have the c'tan (who is fragile).

So when you look at it like that the flayed ones offer Necron players a reasonably survivable infantry unit who have a lot of attacks on the charge, and ways of getting up close and personal pretty quickly.

I think people need to actually play with flayed ones before they shout their mouths off about how terrible they are.

After all math-hammer just doesn't work in reality!

I don't know I think they are pretty bad. The cost to buy the new finecast models also turn me off from them. I suppose if you already have the models they might be worthwhile ?

    I converted mine from plastic:

In the few games I've used them they're done great, the 20 of them chopped their way through 2 GK strike squads

I have used them, and they are certainly worth their points. That being said, they certainly missed the boat with flayed ones, as they could have been AWESOME. If they had the option for a court, and were a troop choice, then they would be perfect.

My advice, stick with large squads... 15-20ish. Always outflank them, unless your going to use the bloodswarm scarabs. If you do use the scarab option, it's for objective contention purposes. Primarily to drop a huge blob of flayed ones right by the objective camping unit or long fang squad, etc... They take some time to chew through, and should last several turns at least, if not win combat.

If they had given the flayed ones the blood scarabs as part of their special rules instead of handing them to the stormlord, and if they could choose which unit they affected than that would have made them even more worthwhile in my opinion.

The problem with the blood scarabs at the moment is that you have to randomly select an enemy unit... not always gonna be the one you want
