Thread: What makes you happier than a kitten chasing a leaky cow?

    What makes you happier than a kitten chasing a leaky cow?

    There is a "what grinds my gears" in every forum, every 6th month or so, always 20+ pages long.
    Yes we all get angry with stuff, but reading about it only adds to those feelings, and we all now that anger leads to hate, and hate leads to suffering..

    So: What in 40k makes you happy?
    I start!

    ¤ Finishing that last model in a squad late in the evening.. placing a newly complete and painted unit in front of me brings pure joy to my heart!
    (then I carefully place them in the cabinet, and say good night. I love them all )
    ¤ Getting a new codex after years of waiting, never abandoning my beloved army just because it was outdated and hard wo win with.
    ¤ Reminding my opponent to shoot with a unit he forgot to shoot with, and then see him miss all his shots with them. Karma.

    What in the WH40k hobby makes you happy?

    The title's analogy confuses me...
    *"The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused."

    For me, its when my Grots kill a Bloodletter in CC, or my Ratlings kill a Necron Wraith in CC without sustaining a casualty.

    It's a qoute from Scrubs. Don't know how to change it now, and I don't know the opposite of "Grinds my gears" (english is not my first language).
    But you still get the point.

    I like it when I get to the beginning of turn 5 and still don't know who's going to win.

    I also like thread titles that make me giggle.
    GM:"You awake to a beautiful morning, the forest is peaceful as a zephyr whistles through the tree branches"
    Bob:"A Whistling Zephyr? I waste it with my crossbow...ha I rolled a critical hit...28 points of damage, is it dead?"
    GM:"What? of course not you *****, it just carries on whistling thru the trees"
    Sara:"Guys relax a zephyr is just a breeze"
    Bob:"Breeze my ass, it just took 28 hit points and it's still whistling at me!"

    Any time I get to play, the rules may not be the tightest thing, but my is it fun to grab dice and duke it out with our 'little men'

    whenever my guardsmen kill a special character they my opponent was fully expecting to mow through them with. bayonets and raw guts!!!!!!
    And let the music of the swords make them crimson!
    Hell grant soon we hear again the swords clash!
    Hell blot black for always the thought "Peace!"

    The first time I field that new unit I’ve spent ages painting.
    Getting complimented on how cool my Highlanders are.
    Playing against someone who knows the rules and can give me a good fight, but still remain polite and friendly while playing.
    Winning a really close game that I thought I was going to lose.
    Wiping out an entire enemy unit with a massed bayonet charge by my IG.

    Dreadnoughts. Also Dreadnought equivalents. Also most walkers in general.

    I like stompy things...though oddly enough I do not own a Stompa...

    Re: What makes you happier than a kitten chasing a leaky cow?

    -Whenever my ordinary little Guardsmen do something heroic;

    -When I come to the end of a hard-fought game and shake hands with a worthy opponent, whichever one of us won;

    -When I finish painting an entire army, look at them, and feel a warm swell of pride;

    -When my opponent and I are having so much fun with ridiculous things happening in a game that we end up laughing more than talking;

    -That one time in a 2nd Ed game when a Chimera rammed a Leman Russ, flipped itself upside down, and scattered so that it landed on top of the other tank. Upside down;

    -My Commissar Lord punching out an entire Space Marine squad single-handed;

    -A platoon of Guardsmen bayonetting a Bloodthirster to death;

    -The time I flamed 52 Orks to death in a single Shooting phase with my Battle Sisters, at a tournament--only to realize there were another hundred Orks to go! ;

    -Every time I try a new conversion or painting technique and have it work.

    I love the hobby.

    When People like my paint jobs. I really consider myself a middle of the pack painter, but I love when people are impressed. I think most people are impressed by my 60 ork boys because they are painted in the same quailty I use for everything

    Crushing my opponents mercilessly, watching the hope fade in their eyes as they dispondantly remove their models from the table and seeing their bitter salt tears of dissapointment.

    Oh, and finally being able to play with a fully painted army after months or even years of slow progress!

    Crushing mine enemies, seeing them driven before me, and hearing the lamentations of their women.

    Yeah, Zothos beat me to it.

    It totally makes sense for Lord Byron to play Dark Eldar. I love you, sir.

    I really enjoy when a game starts to become a story on it's own. It's usually some minor characterful thing that starts it, and the rest of the game is suddenly a long narrative between you and your opponent.
    I also love those totally inexplicable events that come from statistically anomalous dice like the guardsmen tricks above. My best example, though not 40k, was way back in 6th ed. Fantasy. A unit of 8 ogres charged my speed-bump 20 slaves. One dead slave later, the ogres fled 3" and my slaves got to kill them all without getting out of position It was epic.

    Re: What makes you happier than a kitten chasing a leaky cow?

    I like it when there is one bad-ass guy who manages to hold on despite all the odds stacked against him, like once when a Space Marine Captain kept on fighting for about 5 rounds of combat against 20 Orks, after the rest of his squad had been obliterated, until a bunch of Terminators deep-striked in and saved him... it would have been better if I was playing as the Space Marines though...

    When the game plays in a vaguely credible manner - usually takes a certain approach from both players.
