    Necromancer Counts

    Welcome.

This is my painting and modelling log for my Vampire Army! Which will actually not have many or any vampires.

I played Vampire-less Vampires for a while just before the 2008 book came out, where suddenly Vampires were compulsory. Such is no longer the case under the new(ish)book and so... I'm playing Vampires again.
Everything I once owned was sold off to fund other armies and things so I'm starting from scratch, which is probably for the best since my painting all those years ago was... yeah.

Here's a few things I've put together and painted so far:

    Spirit Host #1

    Spirit Host #2

    Wolves

    Bats

5 Zombies, the first of many.

    My Wight King

    From the Side

    And his sword

Hope you like them, comments and stuff all appreciated. Want to know how I painted anything feel free to ask.
    Thanks.

The wolves in particular look fantastic, and the King is stunning. The weathering on the armour and sword are great, as are the blood effects

Your painting has definitely improved a lot since you started posting on here. The Wight King is awesome. Maybe a wash of some cool color on the spirit hosts? Blue or green maybe? Make them look more ethereal?

    Re: Necromancer Counts

Thanks for the kind words everyone

    Some more zombies:

I'll start painting them in larger batches now that I've got a pretty solid recipe for them. They're pretty crappy-looking individually too.

    And for mdiscala:

I agree they looked a bit like statues not so much ghosts. What do you think?

    Thanks.

Well to be honest zombies arent exactly known for their good looks With that in mind I dont think its such a bad thing if they look bad individualy

    Re: Necromancer Counts

The kings sword was tin bitz, then a very light black glaze, then chainmail edge highlights and the blood is just tamiya clear red.

So I finished the first 20 zombies! (Except for the bases.)

Also bought a Terrorgheist... I just love the model and it's pretty awesome in-game too. And it is huge!

Also made a ghoul king out of it because why shouldn't I?

So now my army is incredibly lopsided with much more rare and characters than core. The next thing I'll be buying will be more zombies (until I have 80, then I'll get some skeletons.)

    Re: Necromancer Counts

Just finished this Necromancer I've been working on over the weekend.

If you haven't noticed yet, I like purple.
I'm very, very pleased with the skin on the face and that is by far the area that got the most attention.

I'm very intimidated by that Terrorgheist though, I've never painted anything so large, I don't know where to start.

    Re: Necromancer Counts

Terrorgheist is just about done now. Might do a couple more highlights and touch-ups here and there, and then I have to base him, but for the most part this bat is finished.

    Comments appreciated, thanks.

The face on that necromancer is spot on. I think the spirit hosts still look like statues now though, they just look like statues with moss growing on them.

This the best "ghost" painting tutorial in my opinion, it might help your hosts look less statue-y ... Oh and about the hosts, I love that idea with the flagellants, consider it nicked mate and consider me subscribed

Thanks mate, I wouldn't bother subscribing though I'm really burnt out on painting at the moment and don't have the spare money for more stuff anyway.

Very nice plog! I am now subscribed.
I like how you managed to get a dirty look, without it looking like a sloppy paint job (which it most definitely does not!).
What is your solid zombie recipe? Just curious

    Re: Necromancer Counts

@ Louis, zombies recipe... rakarth flesh basecoat (or dheneb stone if you still have it) make sure it covers well, get a solid colour. Then wash with assorted inks and watered down paints. In this bunch I've used devlan mud, gryphonne sepia, blue wash, green wash, watered down camo green, watered down grey, purple wash. Sometimes just 1 or 2 colours, sometimes several. Then I used red ink on the bloody, muscular bits. The new red glaze colour works for this too. Then re-highlight with rakarth flesh followed by rakarth + a bit of bleached bone.

The clothes are just black highlighted with grey or brown highlighted with lighter brown, etc.

The metals I paint dark flesh (a red-ish brown) then stipple on an unmixed mix of various shades of oranges and browns and make it look nice and rusty. Then a small highlight on edges with chainmail.

    And that's really about it.

@LocaLicious, thanks, I like purple haha

That's the first time I have seen a version of that necromancer model that made me say, "man I really need to add that to my collection". Him and your wright king. Your log could be dangerous to browse, I might end up buying more undead! Please keep it up!

That's a nice effect, but I have no dark green ink and the green washes I have now wouldn't make that effect. I might try some old hawk turquoise on an orc or something to see how it comes out.

Had the same idea for spirit hosts too man. Just can't seen to fit them in at lower points... Are they worth it because of unstable..? On the painting side of them I actually love the ghost colour you did its wicked! Not statuey' in my opinion
