    Algovil's shambling horde (Vampire Counts)

    Introduction

15 years ago, me and my two brother got the 2nd edition WH40k starting set from our grandparents. We had a lot of fun, painting models in all kind of colors, trying to read and translate the exciting texts about a galaxy and an Empire really exciting, even playing some games against friends we introduced to the hobby, there were no clubs or groups in our town in the north of Sweden. Instead we had to do with what we have got, great times. Though my bigger brother could never really let go of the thought that he really wished for Fantasy instead!

Two years ago, me and my older brother travelled through Scotland for two weeks during the summer. Last day spent in Edinburgh, we stumbled into a Games Workshop store, finding back to the hobby for the first time in 10 years, long story short, we went out with enough fantasy stuff to fill our backpacks to the limit for what is acceptable at Ryanair!

Here we are now, played a few games Vampire Counts vs Empire, only against each other, my brother more enjoying the terrain creating, and myself a bit more into the gaming side. Both primarily enjoying the depth of imagination in the hobby, maybe trying to reconnect to our younger years, but now with deeper pockets and more patience

Myself I am studying at University, 5 year program in Biotechnology, for a Bachelor and Master in this area, painting a bit during my spare time. Taking it slow getting into the hobby. Someday I might have an army worthy for the gaming table. What I really like about this hobby is that there is no age-limit, I am 26 now, had a lot of fun when I was 10, enjoying painting and meeting up with my brother for a casual game once or twice a year nowadays. There is no rush and I can see my self picking up these models from a dusty box years in the future.

    Anyway:

Starting of with a few heroes I recently painted, only basing left. Highlights are a bit blow out on the pictures. And there are a few white reflections that is not visible in real life, only when using a flash. Please let me know what you think!

I like your style. The Master Necromancer in particular looks real good. You should probably try taking photos with out flash. Just put them under a lamp (I have a daylight bulb on mine) or take them out side in the sun.

Thanks, I am pleased with how the face turned out on the Master Necromancer.

Here is a picture without flash, seems to work better, but I need more light!

Liquid green stuff on the Dire Wolves to fill out gaps. I find that the liquid green stuff works very well, several layers are needed but with some patience the end result is great. For the Wolves an addition layer or two will be painted on. (should have done this before base coat)

A second Corpse Cart was bought, pictures of the first one, already assembled with the lash and unholy lodestone, painted and based will come up later. This model is built with Balefire and other variation in parts, for example the corpsemaster is modeled with the spear. I need to take a look at my other cart to find how to assemble the zombies. I find that taking the time to variate the parts, making sure no models look the same is very time consuming, especially with say a unit of 30 skeletons! But it is well worth the time and bring so much more life to the army.

A few really sloppy pictures of my current painting space and a Wight King I am working on at the moment, just a great plastic kit!

Wight King almost finished, some highlights on metal parts, and basing left. Pleased how he turned out, great model to paint.

    Good effort so far.

May I suggest touching up the bases? I find that just a bit of flock/ sand/ static grass and brown painted trim can really make the miniatures pop out.

    Keep going!

BTW- great to see an older and wiser hobbyist return to Warhammer. Isn't is great now that enthusiasm is now matched with greater patience and much bigger spending power? Huzzah!
It's a hard ball world son, we've got to keep our heads together until this peace craze blows over.

Re: Algovil's shambling horde (Vampire Counts)

    Thank you!

Yes, that is the next step, usually I use the brown paint and the scorched grass flock from the old citadel scenery painting pack:

A picture of the finished Wight King (except basing)

    PS: Well, older at least
