I have about 23 000pts of greenskins and there is still coming no end to the madness, I keep adding new stuff to the army.
Some wacky stuff I have:
3 Arachnaroks
6 Giants
36'ish trolls
18 wolfchariot( not counting the ones with characters)
...
And I still want more greenies.
WAAAGH GHAZAK, fear the might from the goblins
Never underestimate the power of mushroom driven fanatic's
My greenskin blog
Orcs & Goblins - easily hit the 15,000 point without getting bored - I know as I'm just 1000 points shy of making the target!
Empire - easily hits 10,000 points without getting bored
I think from a collector's perspective it has to be Empire and O&G. Both armies have such a massive amount of options when it comes to their lists, characters, core, special and rare, they have a large number of entries. This makes it possible to not duplicate units to much and still end up with a huge army, my O&G army stands at 7-8k at the moment and I don't even have any savage orcs or most of the night goblin goodies such as manglers or squig herds. Not only do you not have to duplicate choices, you can also easily convert double choices so they appear different with O&G especially.
This thread is worthless without pics!!!
I've been building WFB armies recently but none have got bigger than about 150-200 models, so I can't help you.![]()
When I start an army I just concentrate on it for a year or so making bulk purchases of 150 to 200 pounds every month or two. After that year I just slowly build the collection over time.
My Empire army was sitting at 9000pts at the start of 8th ed.
With the release of the new book it grew by 1500 points. 40 new greatweapon armed knights, 30 greatswords, 2 great cannons, 60 odd assorted infantry and 12 demi gryphs. I will be adding two hurricanums and 2 luminarks then its finished, I won't be buying any more models.
Apart from Karl on his dragon, I manage to fit my whole army in a single box. Once its fully painted this will change and I will need to purchase something like battlefoams 1520 carry case.
I will lay out my empire army and photograph it tomorrow. Warning I only have 67 painted swordsman, 50 painted reiksguard foot knights, 3 painted warmachines and 2 painted stanks.
I'm getting my 60 metal greatswords painted next then 40 lance armed knights.
Still leaves loads left to paint sigh.

With my Chaos I currently have around 3K of standard Warriors (including a flagellents and corrupted state troops as cultists in place of marauders) and around 2K of monsters (Trolls, ogres, etc). My aim is to work towards 3K for each god, comprising of 3K of Tzeentch Warriors (only armoured troops allowed), 3K of Khorante Marauders (not a warrior or knight in sight), 3K of Thogg/ Deamon Prince-led Nurgle monsters (well, the only marked troops would be Ogres, DP and perhaps giants) and 3K of Slaaneshi Daemons. I think at that point that would give me enough for them, as well as letting me field sizeable mono-god armies, or just mix things together.
I'm working on an all-mounted Lizardmen army, and that is only possible a 3K, and is the only Lizardmen army I'm really bothered about so can't seem me needing any more than that.
My Vampires are easily 3K, and I don't think I'll stop with them till I have at least one decent sized unit of each troop type, and considering I've only got zombies, skellies, ghouls, wolves, graveguard, Black & Blood Knights, Hexwraiths and Varghulfs (as well as a selection of foot and mounted characters) I'd say I've got plenty more to get...perhaps finish that one at 5-6K?
Goodness knows how many points of OnG I have, but I don't consider them to have an upper limit. You can never have too many!
If I was to get the urge to do another army, I'd say 3K is a good place to stop if it's not your main passion, that should give you enough options.
Mat Ward Fact #64001- Mat Ward has been described as willowy with elven features.
When I start a new army my aim is normally about 6k points for that armies collection. At 6k I can have atleast 2 sizeable units of everything in each army I would want and atleast 1 copy of each model currently in print in addition to some of my favorite out of print models. With this I can normally make a bunch of 2500 point and below lists in additions to a few 3k list. Some 4k and 1 or 2 5k build. Some armies like O&G tap out higher than this but 6k is a pretty decent spot for most armies imo. As far as playing huge games go, well if you are playing games larger than 6k then you are playing with an established group already and doing things like combining two allied armies (ie dwarf/empire, empire/he, delf/daemons, the 3 chaos books, ogres/anyone etc) shouldn't be a big deal.
Thats just me though.
As someone said earlier, I would love to see pics of some of this stuff, lol.

Key to balance: Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you HAVE to
The big issue with vampires on collection size is that most players have a ton of models that are for 0 points, namely those you have for raising. While my list is currently nearing 5K, I have about 2k more reserved for raising without going into models that don't fit any current role save occasionally as unit fillers.
I'v been collecting miniatures for a good part of 25 years now.
The last 18 months I have been solidly collecting,as I have had no motivation to paint at all.
It's good to see others collect big OnG armies without even trying, it's just one of those armies you accumulate effortlessly.
MAT WARD FACT # 1253 Mat Ward led the last stand at Whatnot
Because it amuses me, I am going to write 3 armylists: One for each faction of Elves. The first list contains every option in the book(except special characters), including monstrous mounts. The lists shall all be legal and "balanced"(thats according to my own view of army building.) and contain NO magic items.

This is 6719 points in total and about 360 models. This lets you use almost every model in the range(a few Dreadlords are missing)
Next is Wood Elves, where I am going to check how big a legal army you would make if you simply included every model in the range(including special characters, but no Drycha(she counts as a ranchwraith)) and maxed one of each special and rare choice.

This list at 8846pts would include every released 6th ed Wood elf except for the 2 limited edition heroes. It is about 280 miniatures.
And since it is actually almost possible to find the MAXIMUM Legal Army, Im gonna try to do that with High Elves.
Since in a grand army, Special choices are limited to 6 each and Rares are Limited to 4 each, Im going to max out those two groups and see where that gets me. If there is no limit for unit size, ill make it maximum 60 for infantry and 40 for cavalry and 15 for skirmishers.
360 Sword Masters 6xfullcommand
360 Phoenix Guard 6xfullcommand
360 White Lions 6xfullcommand
240 Silver Helms 6xfullcommand shield
240 Dragon Princes 6xfullcommand
240 Ellyrian Reavers 6xfullcommand Bow
90 Shadow Warriors 6xshadow walker
6 Tiranoc Chariot
6 Lion Chariot
Rare
4 Repeater BT
4 Great Eagles
And that is 38 000+ points, which means that we will need about 15 000pts of core MINIMUM. Which is 1650 spearmen with full command and a few tiny regiments of archers, more or less.
Just getting all the Phoenix Guard for this army costs 1170€.

My Chaos Army
http://www.warseer.com/forums/showth...Bros-models%29
The start of my Empire Army
Right, I did promise this I have:
Karl Franz on Deathclaw (or anything else), Helborg, Leitdorf, Gelt, 2 war altars with Arch Lector and Volkmar, Schwarzehelm, Huss
Luminark/Hurricanum, 3 Valtens, 2 Battle Standards, 1 Mounted Battle Standard, 3 Elector Counts, 3 TGM, 3 Mounted Captains, 8 "Shooty" captains, 11 Warrior Priests on foot, 2 Mounted, 14 Wizards on foot, 13 engineers, 4 Witch Hunters, 14 Captains on foot, 2 Pegasus, 1 Dragon
2 Steam Tanks, 8 Cannons, 3 Helblasters, 4 Mortars, 30 Pistolliers, 10 Outriders, 61 Knights, 59 Halberdiers, 114 Spearmen, 85 Archers, 20 Crossbows, 30 Flagellants, 60 Swordsmen, 95 Hand gunners, 110 Greatswords, 20 Huntsmen, 100 Free Company
So want to take the Halberdiers up to 100, I need 2 Helstorms, I have more than enough bits to scratch build Wolfhart so I will. I also have a War Wagon which is going to double up as a Steam Tank for a bit. I also want to add 10 Outriders, and as soon as I can find a suitable mount I pan to convert a unit of 10 Demigryphs (then by a second unit of 6 "official" ones).
