    Average cost of Starting BFG.

I've been trying to get people interested in BFG at my local gaming club, but a couple have mentioned that it would be too pricey for them.
I'm trying to think of an average price I could give people for people to get into it with a good core fleet, trouble is I only have experience with the imperial flet and so I do not know what the average price is for the other fleets such as eldar, tau, necrons, chaos ect.

If you go FW, you could probably get a decent Tau or Marine fleet for something around the price of the IN stuff. Maybe 150USD? Chaos is about the same cost as IN with the plastic cruisers. Really only eldar, GW marines, Nids, Crons, and AdMech are more expensive since they are entirely metal.

To be honest I quite often come across relatively cheap bundles of chaos cruisers on ebay or on forums.

I reckong you could get away with 4 chaos cruiser for less than £30.

I find that an odd comment to get from people at a gaming club. With free rules and printable terrain, I think BFG might be the cheapest to play game GW has.

A popular tourney points value where fleets can bring out their biggest classes of ships and other special stuff is 1500, and with the imperial and Chaos fleets that could only cost about a eighty or a hundred bucks, if you're buying new from GW without a discount.

To get a better feeling for average, the 1500 rogue trader fleet I'm considering purchasing comes in at $163

The rogue trader cruisers and escorts I planned to use are relatively pricey, but maybe not atypical of some fleets like Ork and Eldar. I'm thinking that most 1500 point fleets, from GW, no discount, would fall between $80 and $170.

If shipping, taxes, paint, etc get in there maybe round up to an even $100 to $200 range for a tourney ready force.

Of course you can easily play at 750 points instead of 1500 and you might want to do that for a while. In which case maybe halve the values.

Ah, the main problem I think is that Infinity has taken the club by storm (Even I'm starting it now as well) and that has it's £30 box sets which is enough to play lary people slightly may which of other games. On the plus side, a lot of people have just started/rebooted/finished fantasy armies, so hopefully they will be up for it, I know one guy used to have BFG before all his models melted so I may be able to tempt him back into it as well as the others.

This might not be the advice you are looking for, but I have found proxying to be exceptionally easy in BFG.

Print out the beautiful drawings of the pieces you want to try out (I've got most of the orbital defences mounted on thin foam board) and play away.

Re: Average cost of Starting BFG.

Here is what I would suggest.

    Imperial Navy/Chaos
    -1 Battleship $35
-2 boxes of plastic cruisers $40
-2 boxes of complimentary escorts $30
    =$105
That's a pretty good sized fleet.

    Corsair Eldar
    -1 Void Stalker $35
    -2 boxes of Nightshades $30
    -2 boxes of Hemlocks $30
    -1 box on Aconites $15
    =$110

    Necrons
    -1 Cairn $35
    -3 Scythes $60
    -1 box of Jackyls $15
    =$110

1000pt Imperial Navy or Chaos fleets are cheap thanks to the plastic cruiser boxes. Two of those and two escort blisters are all you need. For Chaos you might consider three plastic cruiser boxes and no escorts. (However, small games are more fun if there's a higher proportion of escorts.) Using US prices, that comes in somewhere under 50 pounds.

Not bad at current exchange rates!

Hurm. I've never actually ordered from Forge World. What happens if you're ordering from the US? Do you get violated on by stamp taxes in the ording prices and then again for the shipping?

Re: Average cost of Starting BFG.

well it wont let me create a thread, and this is my first post...
im new to bfg, but i just got the game off ebay and will be buying more for an imperial fleet

and i would like your help.
iv read the tactics on the gw site and alot of other forums and everyones opinions vary....but here goes

i want a solid fleet, that can advance towards the enemy, firing nova cannons so the enemy has to close with me, where i can unleash a close torp wave, then close in and finish of with guns

    i was thinking of a nice 2k list and a main 1.5k

thinking of a ret, with two carriers for protection (either dictators or mars ((i like the dic's for the torps and all squaded together means easy reroles for ord)
and 2 dominators at the side with a load of escorts

Re: Average cost of Starting BFG.

That is a solid core to what you want. Take 2 Dictators. Add 2 Gothics to work together with the Dominators when the lines close.

Torpedo Dauntless in a pair when going to 2000pts.

I have no idea, however another player has started coming who used to play BFG, and with me and another guy starting Call to Arms:Star fleet, I'm hoping after a while I could get him and the ex BFG players to try again.
I'm also going to offer demo games next year during freshers, so these should be usefull even if I can't get anyone into it just yet, there is a craze of fantasy and infinity at the moment.

Ive been looking at the cost of getting started myself and it does seem depending on fleet chosen £100-£150 will get you a 1500 point fleet, which just leaves the paper goods ( rules, markers etc ) that can mainly be downloaded from the GW site for free.
