Wow, all massacres? It seems that tournament had no middle-ground results for you.

I think you would have deserved to go higher, with such a strong list and experience. Remember that the dice-goddess will eventually make up for all those fluffs and blunders.

    Concur with your summery sir.
And maybe it is time for new dice.

Why not try a rapid force: wyvern+boar boys bus +aRock & a giant? Between those 3 large targets no ones' lazer guided cannon can shoot down all of them, unless they roll Reaally well.

My brother saw the same thing, and he had a more reliable skaven list. Then again he drawed the tournnament winner.

Next tournament is in July. In fact there is two of them!

I felt so bad for the Dwarf when you foot of Gorked half his army in one magic phase. Sad that your luck was so polarizing, either you wrecked someone and it seems like they had no chance, or you got destroyed and the reverse seems true.

I hope the dice will be more consistent next time, good reports and gl in your next tournie

Re: Onslaught 2012 Reports (Orcs and Goblins)

It is hardly a surprise that your results were so bipolar. The list is very risky - so much depends on so few moving pieces, none of which are super deathstars to begin with. Add in the innate Greenskin animosity and the list can be paralysed by bad luck or bad play quite easily. Conversely if the opponent cannot deal with the Savage Orc or Black Orcs then they lose. That does not make for a good tournament list. It surprises me that your list summary did not address this. It appeared as if you had it pre-set in your mind that this was a top tournament list and thus it was luck or attitude or 8th edition that prevented you from winning, when it was more likely to be that your list was not at all versatile. Which is silly for a Orc and Goblin army because they have possibly the most versatile selection of units available to them.

    Thanks for the reports!

vcassano, I knew that animosity would be a risk, but apart from that this was a VERY solid tournament list for the local meta.

Actually I was very surprised to not see more ogres there, which this list does even better against.

I agree with the summary, more fun stuff is better. But playing O&G will keep you down to earth because of animosity. If you can no longer see the fun in your units squabling every now and then, that is the time to rethink. You are not there by a long shot. your Uughs still sound funny.

Wanting to win is not wrong, but viewing your battle reports for a while shows that the number of units/options went down. This might be due to your meta, but it is not the O&G way I think. You need some toys to enjoy the setbacks you will have (animosity), get a laugh in there.
The cure is easy, next time: "goblins only". Well it worked for me, got me to enjoy things again, apart from the crazy amount of painting.

I should preface this with saying that I don't mean for my comments to be rude or critical; they are just friendly feedback.

You say it was a solid tournament list and yet you didn't do brilliantly well... maybe it isn't as good a list as you thought? (Yes, I realise that you had bad luck but that will happen to everyone at some point, even tourney winners) As I said before, it seems that you think it is a good tournament list and thus what goes wrong is not the fault of the list which seems to be an incorrectly tuned feedback loop.

I know you like your big blocks and I wasn't/won't try and convince you otherwise(This list was not excessive in that regard, actually and probably would have fit into light English comp). But, Orcs and Goblins can do hordes and still get lots of toys and gear. I won't go into greater detail but I do think that you are too stubborn in this regard.

That said, I do agree with your summary that it is good to try different and wacky things. Someone in the UK does well with multiple Arachnoroks and Wyverns, for example.

On the big monster trend, I've had moderate success with a giant, an arachnarok and a warboss on a wyvern even when there isn't comp. Sure it's not perfect, but I have fun using it.

Then, part of me likes to yell "Hulk Smash!" when all those gribblies get into combat too so ymmv.

It did work pretty well against me but I do no remember the giant-I think you favored artillery over giant.

I really think that with the newer army book meta you need a bit more chaff than you had that game. You only had the 2 trolls, I think you probably needed a wolf rider unit or chariot just to deal with redirectors and enemy chaff.

    Also manglers are your friends.

Enemy chaff really wasn't the problem in any of these games. If anything they were just drops that let them control deployment, but then again in two of the games I had to deploy competely anyway.

Chaff isn't to win deployment it' s to redirect the big blocks around and pick on one unit at a time. Your tourney list had nothing that could really stop that.

I do like how you used your single trolls to protect your bunker from scouts. I hadn't thought of that.

I agree with you that they do both, it just had nothing to do with any of my 4 games.

Re: Onslaught 2012 Reports (Orcs and Goblins)

I think in the above list you took to Onslaught you could do a ton by dropping the Black Orcs and adding warmachines, a mangler and chaff/redirectors/flank units. It would automatically make your army so much more versatile IMO. Hell, I think your "fun" list in your latest video is a way more competitive list.

    Maybe.

Although if the fun list is more competitive is sure takes a lot of the glamour out of it...
