So, I'm taking a break from painting hordes of Zombies/ Ghouls/ Skeletons/ Graveguard as I'm starting to flag with them, and they're not turning out quite as nice as I would hope. I want to practice a bit more on something else, so am going to crack on with my WoC (after I've stripped the piles of old metal warriors I have) in an attempt to improve my woefully neglected paining skills (collecting and gaming since the mid 90's, and only around 10% of my models are painted satisfactorilyFantasy Army: WoC). With that in mind, I'm putting a new list together which will focus on the heavily armoured side of the army (or, at least, avoid Marauders...I really can't do human skin/ faces...).
Lords:
Chaos Lord- Mark of Tzeentch, Great Weapon, Crown of Everlasting Conquest, Helm of Many Eyes, Dragon Helm- 312
This guy has to be taken, mainly because I love the model I'm using, and the set-up is my attempt to bring Aekold Helbrass into my army...the original character had a form of regeneration (Shown by the Crown, and backed up by the Dragon Helm just in case), and a magical two-handed sword that could either grant him the fly ability (which I'm not really bothered about), ASF (Helm oME), or be used as a thrown weapon (if I have some points left I may give him Blood-curdling Roar to represent this). I'm aware he's not the optimal lord choice, but he's a decent fighter, with alright protection and will add some punch t a unit of Warriors
Heroes:
Sorcerer- Mark of Tzeentch, Level 2, Disc of Tzeentch, Golden Eye, Dispel Scroll- 210
Sorcerer- Level 2, Staff of Sorcery- 155
Bit of magical power, the MoT one gives me +3 to cast a few spells, the unmarked one gives me flexibility on lore as well as +3 to dispel.
Total Characters- 677
I still have points left available in this section, perhaps a BSB could be added, or I could chuck in a few gifts or something like that.
Core:
20 Warriors- MoT, Full Command, War Banner, Shields- 395
18 Warriors- MoT- Full Command, Banner of Rage, Shields, Halberds- 391
2x5 Dogs- 60
One unit 5x4 as anvil, the other 6x3 as hammer. Dogs do what dogs do. Lord goes in anvil unit.
Total Core- 846
Special:
5 Knights- Tzeentch, Blasted Standard, Full Command- 310
5 Knights- Tzeentch, Banner of Eternal Flame, Full Command- 280
Total so far- 2113
Now, I've been focussing on my OnG, VC and my Nurgle monster WoC in 8th so far, only a couple of games with my warriors and am not overly bothered with an uber-competitive list at this point (I have other, preferred tourny armies), but on the other hand, ideally I'd not like to get trounced each and every game. Luckily we tend to play friendly games unless preparing for a tournament, so it's not like I'll be facing off with high-tier lists.
I've got full command on all my units so far, for a sense of completeness, and it also gives me a few points to drop. Are they really needed for WoC these days?
The Knights- keep two units, or go for one bigger one (6-10) and invest points elsewhere? If the unit is bigger I'd probably go without the Blasted Standard, maybe just take the Flaming Banner instead (although that runs the risk of coming up against unsporting people using the Dragon Helm or Gem).
So, at the moment I have 287 points left, any suggestions on what to add? At the moment I have a solid core, hard-hitting flankers and a couple of chaff units, so anything else would really be icing on the cake. I've got pretty much all the units to choose from, the only restriction is no Marauders or Horsemen. If possible I'd prefer to avoid monsters (Trolls, Ogres, Dragon Ogres, Giants as they are in my other army), so ideally I'd be looking at options from Chariots, Shrines, Hellcannons, Chosen (if I have to), more dogs, and Spawn, although I'm not ruling out monsters totally. As I said earlier I also have points available for characters.
As usual, any thoughts or suggestions would be muchly appreciated.
