You won't have enough melta guns for the massed melta honour guard I mentioned earlier, but you can always buy this to sort that (although it has gone up by almost £2 since I last bought a pack) or use bitz sites. In fact, go with a bitz site like Bitzbox or The Bitz Store, as you can get the apothecary parts from the command squad set from them as well. Mind you, inferno pistols might do just as well in a pinch, as Dante will allow them to get in close range as soon as they come down.
I see... What would i want the apothecary parts for though?
Also, the final setup seems to be 1 hq (dante), 6 troops/elite (SG), 1 honor guard. Anything else i want to toss in before upgrades?

(Edit: eyes closing so will have to go sleep for now, ill be back later. Again, a HUGE thank you to everyone who has helped me so far!)

To make the Sanguinary Novitite that is part of the command squad, unless you just buy the loose metal one listed under the Elites section of the GW page. As for the list's effectiveness, a fellow at one of my local stores run this and does quite well, although he does trade in a Sanguinary Guard squad for some Sanguinary Priests and assorted options. I have yet to play it myself as I am still painting my models (non-metallic gold is a bugger and a half to try to paint, let me tell you), my army building rule is all models by official fluff must have jump packs and be clad in gold armor, which leaves me with only the Sanguinor as a possible expansion to what I had listed prior. It is just a theme I am running with, but by adding in those Sanguinary Priests you become much harder to kill. As for the Death Company box I recommended, the reason is that you get enough parts to make five Marines covered with Blood Angels iconography from head to toe and plenty of options, including jump packs. Depending upon how you arm your command squad, you will probably need to go bits hunting on ebay or the like, including the Apothecary arm if nothing else, but the Death Company box is a great basis for a Honor Guard.

Re: The mighty few, or which army is most "compact"?

This thread does tempt me to make an honour guard for my force, but I would really want them painted gold, preferably with SG JPs. Problem is, I looked at the boxes I have waiting to be put together, and I actually have almost all the parts to make 4x melta squad except the legs, bases and apothecary parts, as long as I don't want to use sanguinary bodies and JP's... I could always paint them up as normal elites, with just helmets gold, leaving only my captains and SG as fully gold. Problem is, my Dante has SG JP cos my intention originally was to have him in an SG squad rather than Honour Guard, so he might look odd with a 'normal' honour guard. Now I've played with SG and in an apocalypse game a couple of months ago, the idea of those 4 pinpoint meltas seems good (die, baneblade, die!).

Anyway, back on subject, I would definitely make yourself 1-2 Sanguinary priests IN ADDITION to your Noviate in the Honour Guard. With 5-6 5 man squads running around, you may need 3 6" bubbles from the priests to cover them all. Death Company box is great for adding all those details, and has spare bits for converting other models/characters: my priests are all old metals with DC backpacks/JPs, shoulderpads and CC weapons, my captain and Corbulo now have DC backpacks on them, and my tactical squad has a liberal sprinkling of backpacks and bolters from the set. That is only 1 box so far, and I got 5 JP equipped DC out of it as well. 2nd box is sitting with a box of assault marines and another of tacticals, just waiting for me to finish my Space Hulk terminators before I can put them together. God, I have a lot of work to do...

EDIT: I too am becoming sleepy, which may account for the slightly rambling nature of this latest post. See you all tomorrow for more cogent discussions!

Ork meganobz list is pretty good. Ghazgull in deffrolla battlewagon maxed out with meganobz. Repeat with another mega armoured warboss. Then fill out with a unit of lootas, a few rockit buggies and maybe a kan or 2 to finish. It hits hard but is a bit expen$ive to assemble.
40k armies: GKs; Eldar; Deathguard, Demons

WHFB: Dwarves, Lizardmen, High Elves, VC, Demons, WoC
