    2400pts of Peasants

    Fantasy Army: Bretonnia
    Hey,

I'm thinking about starting up a new army over the summer if I can get the funds together, and was thinking about starting up a Bretonnian peasant army. I already have a quite cheesy Dark Elf army so fancy going for something a little more on the comical side. Here's the list I've cobbled together. Any advice on how to tweak it would be great. The only rule is that I am not going to include any other form of knights except from the obligatory unit of KOTR and Paladin BSB.

Prophetess- Level 4, Silver Mirror, Talisman of Preservation- 310pts (Lore of Life)

Paladin- BSB, Barded Warhorse, Enchanted Shield, Dawnstone- 134pts

Damsel- Dispel Scroll- 95pts (Lore of Beasts)

Damsel- Iron Curse Icon- 75pts (Lore of Beasts)

    (8) Knights of the Realm- Full Command- 216pts

    (50) Men at Arms- Full Command- 277pts

    (50) Men at Arms- Full Command- 277pts

    (19) Men at Arms- Musician, Standard Bearer- 115pts

    (10) Peasant Bowmen- Musician, Braziers- 70pts

    (10) Peasant Bowmen- Musician, Braziers- 70pts

    (10) Peasant Bowmen- Skirmish, Braziers- 75pts

    (5) Mounted Yeomen- 75pts

    (5) Mounted Yeomen- 75pts

    (30) Battle Pilgrims with Grail Reliquae (The number of Pilgrims includes the 6 that come with the basic Grail Reliquae)- 324pts

    Field Trebuchet- 90pts

    Field Trebuchet- 90pts

    Total: 2368pts

I'm not sure what to do with the last 32pts available. The basic premise of the army is to use the Lore of Beasts signature spell, and Lore of Life buffs to make the Men and Arms much more killy. The unit of (19) Men at Arms will hold the Prophetess, while the Damsels go wherever. I will probably keep the knights back so that they are available to pass their leadership off to the peasants, with the BSB re-roll there to help with break tests. Any advice would be great, just remember that this not meant to be very competitive.

While I admire the premise, this army will struggle.

IT is the best list I can think of using only peasants (where possible) but you will not be able to deal with any large units and beasties.

I recommend some questing knights as they are not that knightly and you can switch the fluff to make them a different form of mounted yeoman with great weapons

I wouldn't have thought it would struggle against monsters and big units too much, unless the opposing army was completely based around them. I have Dwellers, Wildform, Flesh to Stone, Earthsblood and Transformation in the magic phase to help remove larger units, and to boost my current units against big gribblies. Plus the trebuchets offer a bit of monster busting fire power, and the Grail Reliquae can, be used to hold anything nasty up for a long time.

In my experience the GR does not hold up elite troops well. Also magic is dependent on getting the right spells and having enough power dice to cast them. Transformation is a double edged sword at the best of times as it is.

I know it is a fun list I just think you are expecting these troops to do better then they normally can do.

    Good Luck though

You now the paladin unless stated in his rules van join an infantry unit so you could drop knights for those questing knights.

no he cant because he needs to take 1 unit of knights of the realm as well as 1 paladin bsb

Yes I don't own the brets book just played against them and have some general warhammer advice so if you need knights.you might as well keep them then but what I also meant he can the infantry blocks so his opponent doesn't just kill the knights and become close to auto win.

    Re: 2400pts of Peasants

I have personally fielded units of 10 peasant archers and had them hold up units of 5 chaos knights. I even had them route and destroy a unit of chaos knights during one of the games that this happened.

Peasants are a LOT cooler than people think they are. They are a very cheap source of ranks and wounds to soak damage. Giving them regen helps quite a bit whereas a regen save on knights isn't quite as cool.

Honestly, I would spend the last few points you have on making your men-at-arms unit bigger.

Being a long-time Bret player, I think your list could work. A couple thoughts:
Trade the iron curse icon for the prayer icon of quenelles. It is more points, but you have them to spare. That ward save on one of your big units can really cause problems for your opponent.
Cut your battle pilgrims down A LOT. They are very expensive - and will do the job of holding things up just as well with 12-15 battle pilgrims. Spend those extra points on more M@A or ... anything else.

yea, I would reduce the grail pilgrims and boost the small M@A and keep the wizards with the archers. I would also try to get a paladin on foot for each m@a squad to give them a shot of actually killing something

I'd also suggest giving the Virtue of Empathy onto the BSB to give a wider Ld bubble to all those peasants. Note it specifically says he CAN be fielded on foot, not he MUST be fielded on foot so he can stay on his horse in the knights. Now give that knight unit the Standard of Discipline and you have a 12" rerollable Ld9 bubble for all your peasants.
