That's quite a fair bit of lovely painting you've done. Love the calendar idea. Keep 'em comin!

I'm pretty ADD when it comes to mini painting, so it can be tough for me to batch paint anything. Even on longer projects I'll have a few other minis going at the same time so I can paint them as kind of palette cleansers. It's probably part of why I have so many half-painted minis. Thanks for your support!
Thanks, although several of the minis were already mostly done. With the above cleric the skin and armor was already complete, I just finished everything else is all.
Thanks, that's the plan.![]()
Thought I'd kick off the week with something a bit different. Here's my take on a Fallen One from the Diablo series:
Turns out this is also pretty timely, since Diablo 3 is coming out next week.
After my Dark Sun D&D game fell through I started playing around with the idea of a Diablo campaign. If you've ever played Diablo you know there are some very creative and iconic monsters, and the Fallen Ones are first among them. To convert one I started with an old plastic Skink archer, cut away his fin, bow, and arrows, carved a pair of horns from sprue, then GSed ears & hair for him. The sword is from the oldschool Lizardmen model, and the shield is a shaved down icon from the front of an Orc shield.
He still looks like a lizard, but enough of the demon comes though that I'm happy with the conversion.
Here's how he looked at the start of Sunday.
The paint itself took 4 hours start to finish including drying times. I hadn't based the mini before priming him, so i got to break out my new Citadel texture paint. It worked pretty well, but I need a better brush if I'm going to make it a regular thing.
Hope you like him.

I'm impressed.
Not only because you have managed six minis I've never seen before.
Not only because you are sticking to your stressful plan.
But mainly because you are producing some lovely paintjobs. And I really dig how everything has a bit of a story to it.
I am looking forward to seeing the remaining 25.

I love that Fallen mini - I remember when you first pitched the idea of a Diablo D&D game. I still think it's a good idea - maybe we can give it a spin when D&D 5E comes out.
The Fallen is brilliant, though I think the scythe could have used a little more cleaning up.
What game was the seven-spoked priest from? I'm having trouble remembering.

I appreciate the kudos! It's been alright so far really, a few late nights, but I haven't lost too much sleep yet. I'm surprised you haven't seen some of these before. Here in the states it seems like Reaper minis are the standard. I'm glad you're following my little project here.
I was thinking the same regarding 5th edition. I've been slowly building a storyline and coming up with encounter ideas, but not fleshing it out beyond that point in order to leave it open for a new game system. Yes, the scythe was done haphazardly. It was the last thing i painted, so it was kinda slapdash. I'll probably re paint once I have the time, probably use a rusting technique to weather it instead of heavy washing.
The cleric is Gary's character from Sifting through Gravedust. It's been a while, but if I recall correctly, the seven spoked wheel represented the new religion that was coming into favor and edging out the old gods of death.

I like how you converted that skink. It is a fairly cruddy model and you made it look fantastic.
Keep going! Keep going!

Thanks, I have about 20 of the little buggers, so if I do end up creating a Diablo RPG I'll probably spend a month converting them all. I don't know what I'd do with them otherwise. I don't play lizardmen, and if I did I'd use the new models.
I think I just got a vuvuzela flashback. Thanks for your support!
Today's offering:
Now this guy is probably the most recent mini in the entire challenge. I bought him about a year ago to represent our group's fighter, Deggin, in a tongue-in-cheek D&D game. The model feels out of proportion to me. Something about the deep breastplate, the high collar, & the huge pauldrons makes it look weird. As per usual most of the face and armor were done when i started painting yesterday.
With that, I'm about a quarter of the way done. Tonight's mini should be a bit of a challenge, but I've given myself most of an evening to get it done.

Hello,
You've done some amazing painting and modelling here. It would be really impressive even without the deadline! I can't wait to see what you'll be treating us with next!

He may look off to you, he looks like a mini I want in my collection to me. Painted in this way would be nice.
I have a blue caped model that I am going to add some details too, so it's nice to use this mini as inspiration.

My issue with the Deggin mini is that the torso is too long, the legs too short, and he would have to have a giraffe neck in order to fit into that collar. I would say that the picture isn't quite doing the mini justice - in person the color is a lot richer. I do like that he's got an "adventurer" feel to him, what with the backpack and extra bits and bobs. Would have liked a helmet clipped to the belt, though.

Speedy "painting" Gonzales at work here. No problem as long as they look this fine with a nice eyecatcher to start the plog. Keep them comming!
Thanks, I've had to change/shuffle the schedule on my minis a few times already thanks to work, so I'm not as sure of which minis will be painted when any more. It'll be a surprise for us all I guess.
Thank you Mag, I'll give it my best.
Oh he's not a bad mini at all, he just looks a little awkward. Kinda like the Retribution models from Warmachine.
If you look on his right hip you can see a cast-iron frying pan. A very useful item for both camping and impromptu weapon.
I'm truly not very speedy, for the most part I'm just doing what I can to finish guys that Ive already put work into.
This wasn't the mini I was referencing yesterday. My workday ended up lasting several hours longer than expected so I switched days with this one.
This mean looking fella is a Red Mantis assassin from Reaper's pathfinder line. I bought him to be a part of my Dark Sun game as well. Once the adventurers had become a big enough nuisance the main antagonist would send this guy to take care of them. The reason I stalled on this mini was because I was at a loss for how to paint his weapons. Although now that the game is over I figured I'd go ahead & try a fancy colored metal technique I'm trying to figure out. This probably wasn't the best mini to try it on, but it does make it stand out a bit.

I was wondering if I'd be able to tell what your screen name would be. Thanks for popping in.
Thanks, I'm still working on the technique so hopefully it'll only get better.
This was the mini I was planning on painting Tuesday. Years ago I was part of a Legend of the Five Rings campaign & bought up a big mess of old Clan War minis to go along with it. For a while I really liked the idea of playing a Phoenix Clan bodyguard, so I started painting up this gal, Shiba Tsukune.
I actually based the color & scheme from a really well painted mini on CMoN, by a mini painter named "mrika." A year or two later I actually met mrika at a convention where she was painting to kill time while her boyfriend played cards. She's a phenomenal painter.
Just so you don't think that I busted my hump painting those robe details, here's what she looked like before I started yesterday.
I have some concerns about today's mini. It's big & awkward, so I might have to switch mid-day.

I'm a big fan of L5R minis. I miss having an ongoing Rokugan game every weekend. I like the different shades of red you've used in the mini. I almost would have made it impressionistic and had the pants and kimono design a shade of red as well. The blacks are stunning, and even though I generally don't like rocket-red lipstick on a mini, it works here.
Overall a very stunning piece.

I normally don't do red lipstick either, but that was mostly my trying to stay true to the original paintjob by mrika. I also miss playing L5R, I still have my idea for the boisterous, nosy, sumo-turned-monk Mantis Clan guy whenever you want to make another campaign.
Also, Happy Birthday.
Thanks
The mini I intended for today was a total time-sink. I based & washed & started on the details, but it just wasn't working out for me. So with a few hours left in the day I brought in a new, unpainted mini & started from scratch. Meet Ember.
For those of you who remember the D&D 3rd Edition release 12 years ago you might also remember the line of metal miniatures that came out at the same time. Along with generic heroes, they also put out minis for each of the iconic class characters like Regdar (the Fighter), Jozan (the Cleric), and the rest. Ember here is the human Monk that was released. I think I picked her up about 8 years ago online while i was living in Japan.
Either way, the mini is simple, clean, and easy to paint. My only gripe is that she's a little small. I don't know how large the character is, but if I were to judge from the mini I'd guess maybe 5'1".
