    Nurgle Predator Dio

Hi guys, I posted some photos of this project in my main 40k thread but I think it would be better with a thread of its own.
A very good friend of mine built The Predator ages ago and he actually gave it to me.
Most of the details on the tank are made from milliput, plastic card, balsa wood, jewelry chains, soft drink straws and some other bits and pieces.
The barbed wire that holds the skeleton at the front is just made out of normal wire.

The base i bought at a local trophy shop and covered with masking tape. (There will be some text at the front)
I built a mold out of plastic card for the ruined walls and just poured in a hobby plaster. (I also made some extra bits for the debris on the ground)
Its fairly easy to shape the plaster when it starts to dry on a piece of glass. I did the same with the brick works, carved them when the plaster is fairly set.
The window frames I bought at an AFV convention in Melbourne years ago and I fitted them with some really thin balsa wood on the sides (it was tricky to get the
holes for the window frames to be exact)
For the floor inside I made another mold ,fitted the "reinforcement bars" at the bottom of the mold and just poured the plaster on top of them.
After the plaster was set, I just smashed it up to fit the base.
Still a long way to go and its going very slow but i really enjoy doing it.

I do need some help though, I have no clue about the "fluff" with the death guards and its foes.
So if someone knows who they been fighting (its a dead marine on the base) and where ,I would really appreciate some info.
I'm gonna put a plaque at the front of the base with some cool writing on it.

I have loads of photos and I will post WIP shots as I go along with it.
Here are a few to start with (some of them been posted in my other log).

Close up of the front of ruin

    The inside bit

Base painted before the salt and hairspray

Here it is with salt (first time i ever tried the salt technique and i think i overdid the salting :O)

after I cleaned the salt away

and last is a closeup of the tentacles, i tried so many different colors and I finally stuck with this

Thanks for looking and please don't hesitate to c&c , this is my first ever diorama so I'm sure you guys can give me some
    hints and tips

It looks like you're off to a good start so far. The Predator looks pretty cool, as well as the diorama base itself.

However, I feel that it could do with something more. Maybe an ambush team hiding inside the ruins, ready to pounce and attempt to destroy the Predator or Plague Marines sweeping and clearing through the ruins to prevent an ambush.

That's all I can really think of. Otherwise, keep on going with it.

Yeah sorry i had some Death guards in mind when I planned it all, i have some really old ones that i like and I think they will fit nicely.
Also started to strip some paint from the nurglings that are going to carry the tank (they come from an ancient Nurgle palanquin, mind the spelling)

Here is a photo of the old Death Guards, don't mind the paint they will be stripped aswell.

Almost finished all the tentacles plus started on the trophy rack at the back.

And I still need some "fluff" so i can order the writing on the plaque for the base, what I mean with that is maybe planet system or name of war etc.
Thanks for looking and c&c is always nice to read

    Re: Nurgle Predator Dio

Managed to get some more done, I cleaned up the nurglings and airbrushed a few layers and used some different washes on them aswell.

they will obviously be positioned properly on the base before tank gets glued on top of them, will add more debris etc to level them up.
Done a little bit of painting on the ruin and added some more detailing on the tank (started on exhausts, oilstreeks etc)

Next up is finishing the nurglings then drill holes on the flamer barrels and paint them up.
    Thanks for looking

I don't really have anything to say, except "Wow, that looks awesome!" Having the Nurglings carry the tank is innovative (you did spell "palanquin" correctly, by the way), and along with the tentacles it'll make it look more Chaosy.

The Plague Marines will make the diorama more lively.

Keep up the good work, and stuff, I guess...

Great stuff so far, IMHO the salting came out just fine! When it comes to Nurgle (and indeed Orks) you can get away with a great deal of muck and wear n tear

I really like the idea of the tank being carried by Nurglings! Very fun, I haven't heard of that being done before.

Suggestion - try and pick up a blister or two of the individual Nurglings so you can break up those ranked up lines. Just a few plopped down around the edges to break it up. Also, the gap between the two ranks... I think some Nurglings across the front and back gaps will give the impression of a swarm seething underneath the tanks belly.

Hope that makes sense! Keep up the cool work!

    Re: Nurgle Predator Dio

Thanks guys for looking and I'm glad you like it.
I have tonnes of individual nurglings so I will have a play with them and see if they could fill up
the whole front and back, a swarm of them would look great indeed.
Done some more barbed wire that I will use as details on base, might add some water on the base aswell like puddles etc.
not really sure what to use as water though.Ive read about a 2 component resin that is clear somewhere, hmm gonna
    have to research that.

    Thanks again for looking

    Re: Nurgle Predator Dio

    Hi again
Thanks again for comments guys, have started on some Death guards that will walk along with the tank (done some different schemes on them) and will post some new photos soon.
I also added more rust effects, oil leaks, engine grime etc not sure how the end effects will look like but at least I'm getting some practice.
As for a GD entry I dont think this project would be close to make it to be honest.
This is just for my own personal joy and where I live i don't know anyone that actually plays 40k.
So im just painting for the fun of it plus getting some practice on new techniques.
I have always been fond of WWII afv dioramas and i reckon the top modelers are making some amazing stuff , and it inspires me a lot.

If you're looking for an historical 40k campaign I would probably suggest the siege of Vraks. If that interests you probably make the dead marine a red scorpion.

Love the paint job so far, and the nurgling swarm is inspired! Have you thought about doing a nuglging slime trail across where they've already walked? Nurglings arn't the cleanest of things...

    Re: Nurgle Predator Dio

    Some new photos finally.
Done some on the Death Guards , did 3 with a brownish scheme and 2 with the classic green.
I think i will keep them mixed up so they look more individual.
Still not finished like everything else but I'm getting some done which is nice.

Nurgling slime trails might happen and I did some reading about the Vraks Campaign and I think
that's what I'm gonna do.(Thanks for your input guys)
I have also repainted the ruin to a "lighter" color and i will post some photos when i got some
more done on the whole lot, added some barbed wire and more damaged brick work on the actual base.

I tried to stack up more Nurglings under the tank and there is a problem, they dont look like
they are carrying the tank. Maybe I can try to fill up the ground more under the tank so
only the lower bits of the Nurglings are visual, will play around with it.
here is some of my Nurglings, dont mind the paint job again they will be stripped

    Thanks for looking!

Perhaps you have some nurglings cheering on their fellow deamons? I see some of them are raising their hands to the sky! Perhaps have one on the top of tank as "commander" or chief

Nurglings carrying the tank is absolutely ludicrous. But absolutely awesome as well. Good show so far. Love the use of all the classic models.
