Very pretty. Tilly is looking proper impressive, the cannon looks great close-up. The wheels turned out really nice. I like the Harquebusiers. Nice, colourful and varied. The cuirassiers are looking proper scary. Good job on the little trumpet pennant too. I missed that at first glance. The hoses look really good now. The slightly spotty white one (dunno about proper horse-y vocabulary in English :S ) is one you don't see very often in wargaming.

Re: mrtn's Thirty Years of War

Here is the last batch of miniatures, and a varied bunch they are too, five minis from five different manufacturers.

To the left is Friedrich Vulture-eye, my crazed hero from my Mordheim warband. He's originally from Black Tree Design and converted with a ungor bow.
Then there's an old Prince August fencer, who for some reason was called a Nubian Prince. He has got a plastic hat and sword from Warlord.
Then a model from Grenadier, he can own my mule train, or join the artillery crew or something.
Then we have Hugh Raleigh from Warlord, or Hugo von Rälig as I call him.
And last we have Aragorn, son of Arathorn, also known as Elessar, and a member of either a Swordsmen or Militia unit.

Last night was spent in the sign of the beard:

That's a very cool posse. Despite them being from different manufacturer (and eras really. How old is the PA guy sculpt now?) and you made them fit together nicely. I really like the fact that Friedrich is a fair bit taller than the rest. It doesn't look out of place but just like he's a real big bugger. Merchant guy looks properly foppish. Looking forward to seeing how these beards turn out. So far they look good.

Thanks mate. Friedrich isn't that much bigger actually, but since he's for Mordheim he's on a Warhammer base. I think the PA guy is from 1985-87, something like that.

Here's a cannon crew from The Assault Group, and the first musketman from my next regiment.

Um.....that, that one artillery crewman just whooped that marching musketeer up along side his head. Right there in that photo, he did, he did.

LOL ... thats what happens when you don't use a cotton bud .... he went all the way through.

You really are knocking this stuff out at speed.
    They look great all together.

No musketeers were harmed in the making of this motionless picture.

The guy with the (giant) cotton bud was busy peering short-sightedly at it.

    Thanks.
They are quite nice minis, even if I had to go down a brush size compared to my beastmen.

The cannon crew in their natural environment:

And the latest batch of pikemen and musketeers. Here you see four of the beards I sculpted.

Grrr, it seems like you're even more productive on this whole TYW thing than I am and my guys are just a tad bigger than a third of how tall yours are. As always, nice, varied colour scheme with nothing looking out of place really. Pretty stuff. The beards you sculpted look excellent.

    What's next on the list?

    mrtn.......SAY hey.

Those pikemen are hairballs, they are, they are. Looking good all around, cannon and crewmen too. Oh gee, I just noticed....those bearded wonders don't have any little bows and or burning candles in their beards.

Thank you! Next on the list are Plague Zombie Cultists. I've still got pikemen on the painting table though.

Thanks. Isn't it match-cord you are supposed to have burning in your beard?

    Thanks man!

I think you are correct on that match-cord. I was picturing a "movie sceen" with Blackbeard the Pirate waving a sword in one hand and a pistol in the other AND yelling ARG.......I'LL KEEL HAUL YE!!

I am now over half way done with my last box of of Warlord Games, 28mm, plastic, ECW foot. I "MUST" order more of them!! The cav too.

Re: mrtn's Thirty Years of War

I received my croat cavalry from Old Glory. It's hard to find any good pictures of them on the net, but I like what I got. All ten riders and horses are different (though they share one of four types of body with a different head on), and I got them fast and with good communication. Some bits are bent, and the lance arm for the standard was missing, but other than that it seems like a nice set.

Here are some command models I converted, and a comparison to Warlord's cavalry.

Re: mrtn's Thirty Years of War

The only drawback with Old Glory is the size. True 25mm. I would look for thicker bases to add some height. I would contact OG about the missing part(s)

Re: mrtn's Thirty Years of War

I think they're at a midpoint in between 25 and 28. But we all know Croats are short with small horses, don't we? I find the chance of one lone metal lance surviving in the post rather poor, and since I converted it already I won't bother.

Back again, this time with another varnish episode that went wrong, think I didn't shake the pot enough, so it's too much matt pigment, so parts of the models turned white. Had to do a black ink wash here and there. The guy with the sack is a 25 mm model I cast up, he can join the cannon crew until I get a better looking replacement.

Here I've tried to show the conversion of the guy holding the musket rest in the back rank. Was bloody tricky to get right and get musket, body, right arm and the rest to align in the same place.

Take a look at this handlebar moustache on the pikeman.

Re: mrtn's Thirty Years of War

I think we (well, most of us) have had "experiences" with paint not mixed as well as we thought. I will sometimes do a repaint....usually I just do a touch up.

Heck, most of the problems I have had are matt paint drying with a gloss to it. THAT said I usually just say it's a silk shirt/top or pantaloons. Much/most of my minies have acquired a layer of dust after years of being on the shelf. Dust from the battlefield hides a lot.

Re: mrtn's Thirty Years of War

Well, in between painting dwarves and goblins I've finally managed to finish the first half of my Imperial Croats from Old Glory. The models aren't perfect, the painting isn't perfect, the varnish went bad again, but I still think they're kinda cool. I'm pretty proud of the leopard and tiger skin on the captain and standard bearer, it was quite common among many peoples of the Balkans to use trophies from manly/endangered species such as lions, tigers, leopards, eagles and wolves.
