    Combat reform and flank/rear charges

Hey all. In regards to combat reforming if a unit has been charged in the rear and loses the combat it must pass a combat reform test on leadership to turn and face the unit. I was wondering if it fails that test can it reform during its own movement phase to face the unit or does it have to keep fighting until it can pass a combat reform test, thus potentially having many multiple attacks from the rear? Also if a unit is fighting on multiple fronts can it combat reform to face a unit of its choosing or does it have to keep facing the one at the front?

    Cheers

The only way for a unit that is in combat to reform is by making a combat reform. If you win the combat, you can make this reform for free. If you lost the combat you have to take it on your modified leadership (amount you lost combat by) unless you're steadfast or unbreakable (then you use your unmodified leadership) pg 55

If you're fighting on two fronts, you can not reform as Brother Maynard Says below. (pg 55 bottom right)

    Hope this helps

Thanks fellas. Damn flank and rear charges are even better than I thought... Was watching a game yesterday where a big unit of plaguebearers got charged in the rear by a ranked up unit. They couldn't turn around for 4 rounds of combat because they were disrupted and the other unit had bonuses for ranks and attacking from behind the whole time which meant they were rolling on rubbish leadership. All ended up getting popped by instability from a unit worth half their points. Was wanting to make sure it was legit but seems it was good fight to watch!

Disrupting the enemy will help you win the combat and indirectly affect the Ld-test to perform the combat reform, as this removes up to 3 points of combat resolution. However, I'd just like to remind that a unit that is steadfast or has the Unbreakable special rule gets to ignore the combat resolution modifiers to the Ld test to perform a combat reform.

Being disrupted is not directly a problem as far as combat reforms are concerned.

Stubborn allows you to combat reform at your full leadership, because Stubborn units are considered to be always Steadfast.
