Thread: Armored Female Models?

    Armored Female Models?

Hey all. With Chaos Marines inbound, I'd like to get my Slaanesh warband up and running again. If cultists are indeed going to be thrown in, then I'd love to model them as female sorcerers, corrupt sisters of battle, or just a ragtag bunch of female thugs.

That said, I'm having a hard time finding a squad of cohesive female models that would represent such well. I'd rather not dremel for a day per model on the Sisters of Battle (and the models look pretty.. bleh anyway by today's standards), and I'd rather not buy a bunch of one-off characters to jumble together in a squad that wouldn't look cohesive at all.

Does anybody know of any miniature company that sells a squad, or at least a theme of female models to build a squad from? I've checked through the archives on Warseer, but most links that people give simply give me the 404 error. I did find Hasslefree miniatures, but again no full squads of anything futuristic or armored.

    Help would be much appreciated!

And by the way.. I'd rather not have a big discussion as to the merits of female models or anything like that. It's been done. You can read those arguments on any of the other 'looking for female model' threads going back before the last Eldar Codex came out.

Raging Heroes have a sci-fi Asharah sculpt that could be useful as a character or something. Beyond that I would try Reaper Miniatures, they have a lot of mages, sorceresses, battle nuns even a couple of cultist models that may be of use. You would have to do some converting to make them scifi though. If you can wait Raging Heroes will be releasing some science fiction Blood Vestal (Witch Elf) packs at some point soonish.

Yeah, can't wait to see what Raging Heroes comes up with in terms of the Sci-Fi Vestals. The Fantasy ones look great, as do the upcoming Mantis girls. As far as I can tell, RH is the only group that actually does full squads! I can't find anywhere else that has full squads of female models... Infinity, Reaper, Privateer Press... they all do these one-off characters that would look really rag-tag and inconsistent in a squad together. The only tying theme would be the exaggerated bustline :P

Why not use the Escher models from Necromunda?
"From the fires of betrayal, Unto the blood of revenge, We bring the word of Lorgar, The Bearer of the Word, The favored son of Chaos; All praise be given unto him, For those that would not heed, We offer praise to those that do, That they might turn their gaze our way, And gift us with the boon of pain, To turn the galaxy red with blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods." - Excerpt of the 341st book of the Epistles of Lorgar.

Oh! Well there's a squad... It'd work, but those models with their 70's hair and spandex.. just look horrendous.

    Re: Armored Female Models?

There are a couple of options within GW's stable that you might want to consider:-

Firstly there's the Sigmarite Sisters from Mordheim. Battle nuns. Ticks the boxes of Armoured & Female and are sufficiently religiously themed to scream CULTIST. Minor issue would be the posing, if you're approaching the Cultist problem the usual way and having them as IG, you might have a job getting some sensible posing with rifles from those models, but it's not impossible and is only an issue if they need rifles. Significant levels of re-posing will help in a way as it tends to allow more duplicate models to be used without the army becoming two dimentional.

Secondly there's the Mordheim Amazons. I know there's not much in the way of armour but hear me out in this one....
At some point Slaanesh worship boils down to nudity (be it a pleasure cult forced to fight or a fundamental disregard for covering up), Amazons have that, well partial nudity at least. Combine that with feathers and strategically placed cloth, painted the right colours you can have a halcyon horde of warrior females.
They do have the same issues as the Sigmarites with posing required if you need them to have suitable equipment and the inevitable repeat models (this second issue can be off-set a little by rolling in the Amazons from Blood Bowl) but again, even subtle reposing will allow a certain amount of duplications without becoming too samey.

Finally I must put in a word for Escher gangers. For my money, they are still some of the nicest miniatures GW have ever turned out.
Of the available models there are only four which have "big hair", there's three in the top row and the other one is far left, and in each case they can be changed very simply by means of a few simple cuts, and the colour their hair is painted really does affect how much you notice it anyway. The Spandex issue isn't a problem, once you get them close up you'll notice detail which suggests their clothes may be figure hugging but are far from skin tight.
Where they have a certain advantage over my other to suggestions is the obvious fact a good number of them are already hefting rifles which either are, could be fairly simply swapped out for or counted as Lasguns.
Another bonus, in my book, is the fact that a number of them have the spiked/studded stocking/chap type thing which is something of an oldschool Slaaneshi theme.
Don't write them off till you've considered how you can alter them and how you're going to colour them.

    Try this company: http://www.shadowforge.com.au/

I have not seen any of these outside of the website, and the postage begins to get pricey for me as I am not in Australia. But it might be what you are looking for.
Say, "No," to HH novels and, "Yes," to Index Astartes.

    I'd second AlphariusOmegon20 and Chem-Dog.
Though these punkgirls might not be the version of cultists you looking for, but they own the very mixed weaponry I'd imagine of a semiorganised cultist...gang:P.

I don't know what you have in mind if you hear "Slaaneshy cultists". If you go the SM-leather-way, some Repentias or even Whyches of the DE range would fit, I guess.

I do really like the Sigmarite Sisters, and having taken another look at the House Escher models, I can see past the garish colors. It's really the bright, obnoxious colors that make it hard to look to the actual detail of the model. The painters they had during that time frame were a far cry from the master painters they have now. The Amazons I'm not liking so much. Their faces seem disproportionate to their bodies..

Anyway, thank you so much for the links! I think I may end up going with the Necromunda models after all, if nothing else crops up!
