Project Daemons

Hey guys I've never done a Project Log before. I am the type to start all enthusiastic and then usually forget I'm doing it or get excited over something new.

OK so I have a small job in a new independent hobby store and got asked if I would like to make a new army seeming I get models a bit cheaper now. I thought yes I think that's what my hobby needs. A bit of freshness. So I chose Daemons.

Why Daemons?

Well I wanted an army which plays different and is a challenge to play. I have a Grey Knight army which I am now very bored with. My Raven Guard is good and is my number one tournament army just people are now aware of what it does and how it works. My Imperial Guard is almost complete and again I got bored with it after a few games.

What do you want in your list?

I decided on doing a Nurgle theme as I like Epidemius' way of playing and his rules set. I want to theme the army around him and his tally of pestilence. I also like to have some big monsters in there but also have the numbers to keep my force alive on the turn of deep strike.

When do you hope to have this army complete?

I would like it by cottage con in October or even have it as my Throne of Skulls army but there is no set time as I want this army to look amazing as well as play amazing. My friend who is doing a tale of two gamers who is doing Space Wolves and we are playing at each level so the first step is 500 points. I may reconsider after that.

How you going to complete the army and keep it competitive?

I have a medium to veteran knowledge of the most armies in the game. So I'm planning to build this army in 500 point chunks, play a verity of players and then take notes on what the army lacks then build to 1,000 and repeat the process. This way I learn how every part of my army plays in as many situations as possible.

The building scene I usually buy the whole army, build it, play it, paint it. This has a problem. I don't get around to painting it because I usually get bored with the army or just keep playing and playing. So I'm purchasing one unit at a time. Building then painting the unit before purchasing the next unit.

At the moment I'm still reading fluff in the codex and planning the army. Monday I do plan on ordering my first HQ Epidemius.

First List

OK so upon reading the codex I've decided to go on a pure Nurgle theme. Obviously in writing a successful semi competitive list I need to do the following:
  • Remember Nurgle is not a very fast army so I need to either find a way to speed the opponent up, or slow them down.
  • Nurgle does not have as much punch as say a Khorne army. So I need to find a way to get the kill tally up quickly to make the most of Epidemus' ability.
  • Nurgle are very resilient. So having quite a lot of numbers may not necessarily be a bad thing.

The list itself is currently looking like this

HQ
Epidemus

Troops
7 Plaguebearers
7 Plaguebearers

Heavy Support
1 Daemon Prince: Mark of Nurgle, Unholy Might, Iron Hide, Daemonic Gaze.

Total: 500 points

This I feel will allow me to get the feel how Daemons play and also give me a chance of winning with some fast Daemon Princes to make the opponent panic whilst my slower parts move on them...
