Empire rules query?

I had a game earlier today against an empire list and I swear this guy was twisting the rules and he wouldnt even show me his book to back up what he was saying! we didnt finish the game because I just conceded after a while as he was a douche!

1. What does emporer karl franz magic item 'silver seal' do?

2. What does kurt hellborgs special rule 'the emporers chosen' do?

Basically he had 2 units of reiksguard and thos characters in them, I smacked karl with my vampire lord and he came up with some crap about some stupid save from the silver seal. Then he claimed that kurt had frenzy and hatred?

I always operate on the assumption that if you are unwilling to show me a rule in the book, then that rule doesn't work.
Kudos for stopping play with that guy.

This story seems rather incredible. As in not having much credibility. What sort of venue was this? What was this douche player's first name? What reason did he have for not showing you his army book? Didn't he have it available?

Common practice has it that if you use an army you should bring the army book, and making sure that your opponent is aware of what it can do is not only polite, it is also practical: Quarrels about the rules hold up the game, and showing your opponent the rules for an unfamiliar item or whatever is the surest way to solve an argument.

Well Kurt Helborg doesn't naturally get hatred or frenzy, "emperors chosen" gives him ItP (also to his unit if he joins reiksguard knights), he could get hatred from a waraltar (but since he had Karl, it's probably unlikely he had the lord points for that too), but I don't know of a way of getting frenzy on him.

The silver seal does give Karl a 4+ ward, increased to 2+ against wounds caused by spells because of its MR2.

Hate to break it to you but not every player is a bucket of sunshine. The story isn't incredible in the slightest, as should be attested to by the amount of posts like this that pop up all the time.

Sure, T10, it could be a convoluted way to have people write the rules of two characters in the Empire book, but a simple Google query would do it faster. The other day I was wondering about the exact cost of a potion of healing, and it took me about a minute to find it by googling. Finding rules is usually easier.

This reminds me of a game I had in 6th Ed. when my opponent fielded Malekith and insisted that his 2++ wardsave was against everything, including my Dryads magical twigs.

I think it is more obvious than that when someone is just trying to get free rules out of us; they ask more and are usually about the basics. How exactly would knowing two special rules for two special characters help this guy play a full game without knowing anything else? Being a cynic helps nobody mate.

Interesting that the two special rules asked about is the very two rules that happens to be cropped out of the pictures from the photographed copy of the empire book floating around on the internet. But good story.
