Common practice has it that if you use an army you should bring the army book, and making sure that your opponent is aware of what it can do is not only polite, it is also practical: Quarrels about the rules hold up the game, and showing your opponent the rules for an unfamiliar item or whatever is the surest way to solve an argument.
