    Conundrum regarding shields

An oft proposed house-rule is for shields to provide a 5+ save (or a 5+ against shooting or combat depending).

I'm planning on running a campaign at some point and it's probably the only house-rule I will make aside from armour cost.

It all seems fine an dandy, though I ran into one little snag:

    I run Black Orcs.
This ruling would mean I have access to a 2+ save.

Everyone else of course has access to a 3+ save and I am paying the extra cost, but is this too much?

depends on the price tag to make a 2+ save
also black orcs; a somewhat unfluffy warband in a skirmish game, imho
there was a reason there were no space marines in necromunda

One way to address shields is to give them a 6+ unmodified save on hits instead of wounds, and then just bump up all the armour to +1 save. No changes in prices, and you end up with a much better dynamic.

I don't know these Black Orcs you talk of, as they are not listed in official, unofficial or experimental warbands I have been able to find.

I assume the Black Orcs have a built in save that stacks with armour and shields? Like Lizardmen? If so, limit their access to armour/shields.

A +2 save is fine. You will just see more axes and gromril weapons being taken instead of clubs being quite so ubiquitous and daggers will be used less. Besides, everyone else will be able to get a 2+ save with Gromril and a shield.

True, and it could mean more handguns over crossbows, more double handed weapons and more halberds.

...by having everyone running around with all the fancy toys (gromil is suppose to be ultra-rare and blackpowder weapons are some what restrictive to which warband can have them/etc...) you're going away from the original feel of Mordheim; of desperate adventurers seeking fame/glory.

The Nemesis Crown was a campaign for the WHFB system. So, making adjustments to the Mordheim system with a warband thats untested in a Mordheim system is up to you and your gaming group. But brokenv suggestion is the best by far.

More to do with giving people reasons to use the other available weapons rather than double-club and crossbow spam.

There's a Nemesis Crown Mordheim supplement as well. It's unofficial, though I believe the team behind it is closely linked with (if not the same as) the well regarded Border Town Burning setting.
