    spray gun basecoat question

I just had a quick question about basecoating some stuff from a spray gun / airbrush.

I've been painting some tau in the standard colours and the Vomit Brown is one of those terrible yellowish colours that needs about 4 or 5 thin coats when painting by hand. On GW's website with painting tau vehicles using the spray gun, the old article said to first spray it with Tausept Ochre (the foundation paint thats very close to Vomit brown) then paint Vomit brown.

My question is, how will this non foundation paint go for giving a smoothe clean basecoat from an airbrush in one go when it needs about 5 coats when done by hand? Should I spray the vehicles with Tausept Ochre first or will Vomit Brown go on fine on its own? (this is over a black undercoat too).

That's why when they makes a unit plastic and charge the same as when it was metal I don't care. To me the model just got better for the same cost, who cares about anything else.

    Re: spray gun basecoat question

Are you 100% on using a black primer? Tausept Ochre has a strong pigment so will likely go on smooth with a couple of passes of a spraygun, but you may need 3. You will have to thin the paint down by at least 50% anyway in order to get it to go through a spraygun. Still way faster than painting by hand though, and the finish you will get will be way smoother.

    Re: spray gun basecoat question

Thanks for the reply, but I think you slightly missed what I meant by the question.

The final colour will be Vomit Brown, but the question is wether or not to spray it Tausept Ochre first since that is what GW's paint guide did, and Tausept Ochre is a foundation paint. If the Vomit Brown can give a nice smoothe coat with the one go of the airbrush (a few passes, but all within a short amount of time) then I'll just spray it with that.

Also, these are already undercoated black.
