    Multi-codex Armies

A poll to see if people would mind multi-codex army books in friendly games (And I can't stress that enough) mostly for simple flavour, not for tactical Value, Eg.A imperial Guard player taking a Tactical Squad in a Rhino to represent one allied squad, or Chaos using a guardsman squad to represent traitors.

In a friendly game, the only rules and restrictions that exist are the ones you agree to. In other words, I absolutely am all about mixing and matching units from various codices in the interest of fun and a good time all around.

Within reason, I'd have little problem with that. For instance, an assassin in another Imperial force, regardless of the presence of an inquisitor, IG squads/platoons as Gue'vesa in Tau, or Cypher and a unit of fallen in an IG army. If, however, we're talking 9 Vendettas in an ork army, or a Stormraven carrying a load of 'nid warriors, we might have a problem...

Although, a well converted Valkyrie using Ork gun profiles would be totally win.

Pretty much this, and it has to be talked about before the models hit the table, game is rolled, etc. Undocumented surprises in the middle of a game = cheating to me.

One of the rumors floating around is that in 6th Allies will be returning. If that is true people need to start thinking about this more. Wouldn't it be awesome to fight Blood Angels and Grey Knights at the same time....puke on floor.

My BA's would be fighting those treacherous Grey knights not with them. But BA's and necrons now thats a different story, that is completely fluffy

I bet it's going to be like the Warhammer 8th allies rules, so some guidelines intended for multiplayer games. Not rules for players to mix and match armies on their own. That being said, as long as it's talked about before hand it sounds fine. Imperial, Chaos, Tau and Orks especially are perfect for that kind of thing.

I have both CSM and Daemons, so what's your guess?

I think in friendly games everything can be done - as long as all involved are happy with it. CSM/Daemons/IG are a good example of what could be combined in larger games, even though some things have to be discussed beforehand (e.g. Daemons being summoned by CSM icons).

Yes - I would indeed encourage this - assuming it is done for flavor rather than WAAC mentality.

For example - using this to get Stormravens and Honour Guard to back up your IG Meltavet spam - not so much. Using it to add a Broodloord and some purestrain 'stealers to your IG-based Genestealer Cult list - awesome. Using it to add some Crusaders and other Inquisitorial Henchmen to an IG-based Arbites list - also awesome.

Yes, with some pre-game arrangement and agreement.....
Occasionally accused of being helpful and constructive.
One ring Book to rule them all, one ring place to find them, One ring Codex to bring them all, and in the Darkness future bind them. Time for the unified Marine Codex.

    Re: Multi-codex Armies

I have nothing against this sort of thing but it only really works in a narrative game, and despite protestations to the contrary, 40K sucks at narrative.

The idea of a lone squad of Marines being sent to bolster the line with a bunch of guardsmen is pretty neat (or a militia army rushing to stand beside the legendary Astartes warriors that are fighting to defend their homeworld) and there are many other really cool and fluffy variations on the theme. But there's not enough variation or detail in 40K to make it actually interesting.

So you'd have to heavily swing the army builds towards helping to tell the story, if you want the Marines to rock and totally outclass the Guardsmen they're allied with, for example, you'd pretty much have to do away with anything that's Ap3 or better in the opposing army and give them a chance to soak up huge amounts of fire where the guard would die in droves and do all the stuff marines are supposed to do better than anyone else.

Weirdly, the best way to do this particular line-up would be to have another (renegade) Guard army as the enemies.

So no, I wouldn't mind. But I would ask you why you're bothering.

Or just add a small squad of Movie Marines...

Then you wouldn't have enough points left for a squad of Guardsmen!

Oh, , I see what you did there.

Depends on how I feel that day, and how I feel like playing. For pure fun, yeah I'd definitely allow multi codex. Hell, I let my opponent combine his tyranid and sm forces together since he didn't have enough points.

On days where I feel like improving my playstyle and skill, no.
