Legionary 2012 Tournament Report
Hello folks!
Well, yesterday I was up at the Legionary 2012 40k tournament in Exeter. It was three games of 1500pts over the course of a day, and two of the missions involve a boss, a non combatant IC that we either have to kill or protect depending on the mission.
I was using my warrior kabal themed Dark Eldar
The Kabal of the Shattered Mirror
Archon Kuras – Djinn Blade, Blast Pistol, Ghostplate Armour, Clone Field, Combat Drugs
4 Incubi – Klaivex w/ Demiklaives, Venom w/ Splinter Cannon
5 Trueborn – Dracon w/ Venom Blade, 4 Blasters, Grenades, Venom w/ Splinter Cannon
3 10 man Warrior Squads – Sybarite w/ Venom Blade, Blaster, Splinter Cannon, Raider w/ Flickerfields
5 Scourges w/ 2 Heat Lances
2 Ravagers w/ Flickerfields
Game 1
Opponent: Rob Angell
Army: Imperial Guard

Rob was a really nice opponent, and had a very nicely painted and modelled Praetorian army. It was also quite nicely balanced with a Manticore, Russ, Demolisher, Valkyrie, Platoon, Veterans and Rough Riders. A nice spread to face.
For the mission, he had my boss, and I had to go rescue him.
He deployed fairly spread out, and I refused a flank in return. I started well by getting the initiative and stealing first turn. However, I got +1WS for my Archon, which was literally useless.
Turn 1 was bizarre, with neither of us doing anything. I think an immobilized Ravager and four Guardsmen was the toll. Turn 2, went quite well, killing the Demolisher and immobilizing the Valkyrie where it blocked a lot of LOS. However, the Incubi whiffed badly against the Vets, and spent the next few turns locked in combat.
On Turn 3, everything went to hell, as his shooting hit home, and my flickerfields stopped working. I think things sort of came to a head when my Archon took a Manticore missile by himself. I got close to the objective a couple of times, but was ground down, till I had nothing left.
It was a good game against a good opponent, and he did win the tournament, so that feels a little better.
Game 2
Opponent: Rob Wright
Army: Dark Eldar

Interesting! DE vs DE, the new models vs the old. Rob had a much more Hybrid force than me, with Lelith, two Taloi, Wyches and Warriors, a few beasts and a Ravager.
The mission was odd. We each had three objectives, but all that mattered was blowing up the enemies’, by spending a whole turn there.
It started really well. I killed so much of his stuff by turn 2, without losing anything in return. Two Raider, a Talos and the Beasts were gone, one of his Wyches was at half strength, and two of my Warriors had Pain tokens and one was on an objective.
Then Lelith and the Wyches hit home, and my shooty based army got dragged down. 6 Wyches spent the whole game just managing to overcome 10 pain fuelled warriors. The Incubi charge another half strength Wych Squad and whiff like ******. Lelith kills two Warrior Squads while dodging approximately seven blaster shots before finally dying.
In the end, our armies are fairly torn up, but we’ve both protected our objectives, earning a hard fought draw.
Game 3
Opponent: Carl
Army: Tyranids

Well, I end up meeting Carl on the bottom board. The mission was Dawn of War, and we each place our boss on the board with a unit from our army protecting it. I think this favoured me, as my much faster army could cover the board quicker.
I don’t wish to be horrible to Carl, because as he says, this was his first tournament, only playing with mates before, and he made quite a few errors. He had five warriors advance without cover towards two Ravagers. Bizarre dice protected him, but that was dangerous. He had no Hive Guard or Zoanthropes, and my vehicles were never in danger.
Again, my Incubi and Archon die miserably, trying to finish off a wounded Prime and Warrior. Damn you, lash whips. Hormagaunts and Genestealers advance through the open and are gunned down.
His reserves betray him, and when his Trygon shows up, about 90% of my army surrounds it and annihilates it. Next turn, the Doom of Malantai scatters away with his pod, and dies the same way.
Across the board, his Boss is only protected by 5 Dakkagaunts by the time my Warriors assault in, and though the combat is depressingly protracted, I kill his boss in assault, which gains me the most VPs possible.
As Turn 6 rolls around, he only has a Spore Pod on 1 wound. We call it there. He was a nice guy to play against and easily had the best painted army I faced that day.
Thoughts
Overall, I had a very enjoyable day, though I can’t help but feel that I threw game 2, and should’ve won it, but such is hindsight. I had three nice opponents, which is always great and I ended up with a win a draw and a loss. It also nice that my loss was against the tournie winner, but overall, a fairly average result, which I suppose I was always gunning for with my list.
My Archon and Incubi did horribly over the weekend, I think their total kill count was 8 Veterans and 5 Wyches. My Scourges also did badly, accounting for one Raider with their heat lances.
Oh, and here’s my brother winning the Warhammer Fantasy tournament. B******. XD

Re: Legionary 2012 Tournament Report
Nice to see your Legionary Battle Reports, and I'm really glad you enjoyed our game as much as I did - even if the dice were a little more kind to me(!), hopefully will see you at PAW'13 unless we get NUSU3 up and running later in the year and your able to attend!
